Hard liquor suddenly makes me sick

To answer your question: You may be diabetic. Alcohol will turn to sugar in a diabetic and make them sick. Get that checked out.

Now for the adult speech: Alcohol can be used or abused. You are abusing, but think you're using. You may even already be addicted. If so your liver is shutting down, your brain chemistry is changing (not in a good way), and you begin to age very rapidly. But let's forget about the health concerns for a minute. Lots of good jobs will require you to take a drug test. And yes, they test for alcohol. A potential employer will assume you will come to work drunk, drink on your lunch break, and spike your coffee. Might as well drop out of college now and get a job a McDonald's.

The question is, how fast can I recover and go back to drinking hard liquor?

...

... It just helps to run away from problems and anxiety...

...and now not knowing how long you have to wait 'till your body heals so you can systematically weaken your body's digestive tract with yet another hammering of a substance that is supposed to alleviate your fretfulness, is now causing you more anxiety...brilliant.

...

The reason for my OP was that my best friend's birthday is coming up and I don't wanna be the one guy who can't even have a shot.

If your best friend knows of your situation and is selfish enough to have you risk your well-being for his ego, it may be time to get a new best friend.

Sounds like the typical youthful (or otherwise) gathering wherein everyone gets somewhat tanked and could use a designated driver...why not you...or are they just merely casual acquaintances...

...
The question is, how fast can I recover and go back to drinking hard liquor?

How fast do you want a reoccurrence of having to clean the floor while still hung over, or othewise?

I try not to profile, but I also kind of smell troll.

Society makes life way more stressful than it should be, and unprocessed crap builds up in your head until you want to explode. Take a weekend vacation somewhere you can be alone, or with non-party people. No drugs, no sharp objects, no cell phones, no fast food, no artificial colours or flavours. Just relax and let your thoughts process themselves. Try meditation and breathing exercises. Read a book. Climb a mountain. Whatever floats your boat. Go for a boat ride, even.

Don't mean to be arrogant but I can assure you I'm not a quarter as dumb as you may think. One of my life choices may not be right, I may in a way be weak and inexperienced. Adult responsibilities and college just seem to much for me to take along with a plethora of other issues I'm not gonna talk about. And no I don't have a driver's license and I don't drive, neither am I dumb enough to get in a car while I can hardly walk, even in my drunk state. I drink exclusively at home by myself late at night so that I can go to sleep and numb my brain a little. Just because I'm young doesn't mean I'm dim witted or near sighted. Everyone can have problems at any age or financial status.

The reason for my OP was that my best friend's birthday is coming up and I don't wanna be the one guy who can't even have a shot.

Not being able to have a shot is the LAST thing the world you should be concerned about. Mentioning that shows that your priorities are wrong. You have a problem.

Well I beleive at least one thing about the OP; 18 year old drinks 600ml of straight rum on an empty stomach in <1/2 hour and throws up all over the bedroom. :p

But really it sounds like a young guy bragging about how much he can drink, which of course proves what a big real man he is.

OP, if you really are drinking as much as you say, you certainly are a big real man. My question, where are you getting all this booze??

Also realize that at your age your brain is still developing. Do you really want to wire it to tolerate and become dependent on massive quantities of hard liquor? ("Dependency" does not mean only that you must have it to satisfy a maddening craving; it also can mean that you must have an ever-increasing quantity to achieve the effect.) As a drinker I must say I'm not against enjoying alcohol, but you're heading toward being dependent on massive quantities to enjoy the effect. Lots of people can enjoy alcohol responsibly but massive quantities of hard liquor will kill you sooner or later, and ruin your life in other ways before that.

You may not be an alcoholic but you definitely need to cut back... providing the OP is true.

Thought that these should be in one place for @Derp to reread.
At the rate you're drinking, you'll have a pretty solid case (no pun intended) of alcoholism in short order.
An alcoholic in the making.
Stop it. You're making terrible choices. Reevaluate what you think is cool.
You should talk to someone. A professional counselor or therapist.
The very definition of an alcoholic.
If not a troll, get help.
Not for the liquor, but for the reasons that you drink.
Facebook your problems sober. Don't try to run from them in a bottle.
You are already in trouble with drinking.

LISTEN to your body. Don't do what it does not like! it's telling you to knock it off.

And start by going a week without a drink to get your body cleaned out. After that, limit yourself to two drinks at most - there is no virtue in being able to out-drink your friends. Too many teenagers trying to "act like grownups" do that.

And if you find that you start drinking more, QUIT. Not everyone is able to drink occasionally - some people need to stay away from it.
the behavior you describe will lead to alcoholism. You're young. You have time to change before you have a serious problem.
Sounds like it. If you're lying to amuse yourself, it's not funny. If you're telling the truth, it's not funny. Seek help.
No matter what problems you have, drinking will only make them 100 times worse.
Maybe I'm mean to you because of all of the drunks hurting people, behind the wheel or otherwise stories I've heard from my police officer daughter.
Your posts can't be serious. And if by some slim chance they are, you need help right now. No sheit.

You write too well to be the idiot you're painting yourself to be.
there is no definition of alcoholic. It means different things to different folks. To me you are alcoholic if you feel like you need a drink.

Some people never let go of it and remain sober alcoholics by their own definition. That's AA philosophy.

Some people call themselves ex alcoholics. By my assessment Joe Nerve would be an ex alcoholic, completely sober. I am another but I still drink occasionally. My own degree of alcoholic endeavours doesn't rate a blip on the scale.

I recommend knocking off the booze and getting some help.
If you're being honest, you have a problem. Seek help. Please. Get off the internet. This thread isn't going anywhere and it won't help you. Seek help.
There is no problem that alcohol will not make worse.

I would really try to reevaluate what you are doing. It is not a good path.

If you overthink - try serious exercise. Nothing like endorphins to calm the brain down.
You're in college? You're school has professionals you can talk to. They can help you or refer you to a specialist who can. Do that. Today. Or Monday if they're closed today.

Listen to what I'm telling you. Please. I was where you are but with lots of drugs along with the alcohol. It wasn't cool. It wasn't funny. Stop it now while you're a kid. You're 18 and a legal adult and responsible for your actions but you're still a kid.

Seek help.
No bud - and I am sorry if I am incorrect as this is then a real call for help- but your posts read like someone is paraphrasing a flyer for "am I an alcoholic?"

So so so many just stereotypical warning signs: increased drinking, drinking to forget, drinking alone, feeling like you need to drink, etc etc etc.

Hi all,

I'm currently 18 years of age. I started drinking(properly) last year when I was 17. So far, as far as drinking goes, I've been doing great. I'm far more tolerant than most of my friends and can outdrink most of them remaining more sober after half a bottle than most of them are after a couple shots.

Last weekend, we together with my roommate decided to get a 750ml bottle of Bacardi(quite cheap of a rum). I ended up drinking most of it, around 600ml, with an empty stomach and no chaser. Downed the whole bottle of the cheap crap in less than half an hour. It got me pretty messy and just as I laid in my bed to sleep I started throwing up like crazy all over the room. Never before had I thrown up after drinking. I had to clean up the place the next day while hungover.

The point of this post is, as I'm writing this, I'm sipping scotch. Sadly, it is making me kinda sick. My body's reaction to last weekend's overkill I guess. I had a couple pints of beer and some wine earlier this week and had no problems. The taste of somewhat cheap whiskey(Black Label) reminds me of the the Bacardi and makes me a little sick.

The question is, how fast can I recover and go back to drinking hard liquor?

Thanks.
I never saw the ability to "outdrink" someone as something to brag about. Rather pathetic, actually.

OP, you had alcohol poisoning and could have died in bed had you not vomited it up, and you also easily could have choked on your puke and died. Your body is now conditioned slightly to become nauseous at the smell of what made you sick. This is a natural defense mechanism, and it is necssary, since your body needs to tell you what your brain is refusing to admit, that what you are doing is extremely dangerous to your health.

I was a good drinker too, never got sick and always behaved: I was also very social and usually funny when drunk. I was very lucky to not easily get addicted to things, and was never the type of drinker to drink off a hangover, which I think was a lucky thing.

The people I've known who started drinking like you describe, so much so soon and with such determination, all became addicted very quickly and had only relative success at eventually putting their lives back together after they inevitably destroyed it by going down this route.

You are young and I assume physically healthy - get some help and address your anxieties because alcohol will only dull them for a short while. What you we doing now is burying them and you will end up
An anxious miserable lonely drunk. Physical exercise is important as well.

You also need to grow up a bit, but drinking heavily will simply freeze you at this adolescent stage and you will not learn how to deal maturely with yourself and other people instead of running away to a bottle.

You will also screw up the development of your brain and other organs, and the chance to learn to deal with your problems in a healthy way before becoming accustomed to drugging yourself to oblivion.

Still not sure if you are a troll either, but if not you sound like you have no one to turn to deal with this, so you should try to see if your school has someone to help steer you right.

Edited to add: I remembered you from you thread about scaring away a girl you liked, and I looked at your posting history. In two of your posts you talk about being nostalgic for a car and a song from the 90s because you are a '90s kid' in your own words. If you are now 18 you would have been born in 1998 and so would have no nostalgia for the era. That and the fact that you constantly mention your age in your posts, back from when you were 15, doesn't really ring true, and is very unusual for kids to do. Excuse me for doubting you but with your excellent written adult English and the perfectly crafted scenarios of teen angst, from a father who doesn't appreciate your playing, to being an awkward virgin, to a budding textbook alcoholic, just make me wonder if we are being taken for a ride here.

If I'm wrong excuse me and ignore this part of the post.
