Hartke LH500

Im about to get one of these heads. Looks good so far but there's two things i absolutely hate about it.

1. The effects loop and speaker outputs could be very easy to get mixed up in the dark. That means 250w into each end of your pedal board.

2. The EQ. What idiot thought to preset it at some stupid setting? Any EQ should be flat. If I wanted all the mids cut out, I would turn the damn knob down myself. What happens if I want a mid-heavy tone? Bad concept.

2. there are a small handful of truly flat response amps, but most are voiced in some way. ya, i'd say if you like heavy mids, look elsewhere, but you can at least pretty close to flat out of it.

1. that's just knowing your gear, isn't it? however, if it's that confusing, i'd carry a small flashlight.

When I had a rack rig, I strung a small section of rope lighting around the inside of my rack and plugged it into my power supply. It really lit up the rear of my rack and made for a very cool looking glow out front.

Back to the amp, judging by the simplicity of these, I think they would be a great platform for a VT or anyone of a hundred different preamp pedals out there.

Old thread but...

It's not that there's a preset EQ, it's that setting the knobs at 5 is not flat.

The is the same type of passive EQ used on Alembic preamps, and the Fender Bassman, etc.

So the bass and treble boost, and the mid cuts. To get a sort of flat response, you set the mids to 10, and the bass and treble at 2.

It's actually a very musical sounding type of EQ.

Happy Hartke user here since summer 2010... first bought the LH1000 head, then two HyDrive 4x10 cabs. I don't gig, but my guitar playing buddy and I like to get together and jam. This rig PUMPS. I usually practice/jam by myself with the volume at 2-3, and it's more than enough. One time, at my buddies house, we switched instruments. He turned the rig up to 5-6 and let it rip on my Jazz bass. I was scared.

Bass- 2-3
Mid- Cranked
Treble- 2
Bright- On
Limiter- On

Oh yeah, baby.

You're going to absolutely love it! (if you haven't already picked it up)

I just got mine and this thing IS AMAZING!!!!!!! :bassist:

I did! I used it this past weekend at an outdoor gig. It was just an amazing warm and thick, yet clear as a bell tone.

And the amount of low end it threw off was just silly. And this was outdoors. I had it paired to a Hartke 4X10 XL which I borrowed for the gig.

I'm very happy with this amp. :bassist:
