Has anyone tried ReedJames custom pickups?

every time I've ever been in there, Jim has been everything short of hostile. He's been rude, short-tempered, cranky, and insulting. I've been told things like "you're not good enough to play that bass," "don't even look at that without a deposit," and "what do you mean you don't know what that is?" when I looked at a Guild Ashbory bass for the first time. Even if the things he was saying about my skill level or knowledge were true, they aren't things you say to customers.
and of course you don't have to wear a suit, it wasn't a literal statement. My point was that Jim - in my experience - cares about money, not service.

What are you going to do if you cross paths with me?
This is getting progressively more ridiculous.

Hey, hey...let me jump in....

James, thanks for putting my pickup covers as your avatar. These covers are perfect, as I was able to stuff a Aero coil within it, no problems at all! You came thru when another wooden pickup cover maker didn't. Although I just went the wood covers route instead of the whole pickups, I'm sure your pickups would be just as great as these covers. Truth be told, sometimes you can be rough around the edges...but that's you. Your work is top notch!

David, your designs of pickups is exactly what I need for these covers that James just made for me....both of you guys are great at your craft. Let's play nice....I can personally vouch for both of these guys. David rewound an old StingRay pickup of mine....a super great job, he did. I'm just waiting for his sidewinders/pluswinders in Jazz sizes.

You should be proud, they are excellent and perfect. With the same inside dimensions of plastic covers...imagine my suprise when those Aeros fit without any grinding of the bobbins. I'll be ordering some figured wood, soapbars cover here pretty soon.

I don't sell in any stores yet. Been making pickups since 2005, been making basses as SGD Lutherie since 1994. Been repairing and building since 1972. You can Google SGD Lutherie and see a lot of old references.

A number of TB'ers have bought my pickups. Here's a long thread on TB. That thread has had 23,702 views. That's the 5th highest number of views in the Pickup and Electronics section. I guess you don't read that section much then?

Hey Gerry! I didn't know this was you. I just put up a Sidewinder Jazz preview clip.

Yeah, I recognized James's covers.

James, I think you do very nice work, and I wasn't trying to start anything with you. I was just checking out your web site the other day.

I just took offense at the notion that no one else was hand making low production pickups in the US. But of course that wasn't you saying that stuff. But some people weren't sure for a moment.

Let's all shake and be friends. :D
