Well now that doesn't help me at all Lokire! 
There is just soooooo many good basses in my price range ($1,000-1,500) that I just don't know what to do! Im pretty set on getting the MTD Zeyphr, and im actually thinking about possibly buying one of the new Benavente Standard Series basses. Such a hard decision!!!

Check out Winters Custom. I can't seem to find the URL...my bookmarks all got erased...but I'll try tomorrow. Same prices, better quality (IMO of course).

With all the money I pull in from my sales im going to buy an MTD Zephyr 5, a Benavente Standard Series 5, and also a SX Stingray copy which im going to do a little bit of modding to. I agree. I've played a couple Level 5s and a Level 6 here in ATL, and they've all been GREAT, comfortable instruments. There's a neck-through Level 5 languishing in GC Marietta as we speak. It sounds excellent, but it's in need of a setup and some general maintenance, as is typical of anything that's been at a GC for a while. :^/
I have a friend who just got his DP a couple of months ago and it's unbelievably nice. The problem is every review I read gives his basses 9's and 10's or 2's and 3's. I'd rather see consistent 7's and 8's myself. The 2's really worry me and I'm not sure I'm going to be ordering one from him now, although my friend's bass has me tempted. I think I'll probably just save my pennies a little longer and order a Stambaugh or even a used Roscoe, although I want a neck-thru.

Yes, I've seen that, but my point was that for anyone who hasn't read what he wrote previously, "no comment" is pretty much useless. Threads fly by here pretty quickly, and are easy to miss altogether after a week or so. More constructive would have been: "Here are links to a couple of posts I wrote previously on this subject."Ryan L. said:

As a recent recipient of a Stambaugh totally-custom-made-from-a-drawing-bass, I will say that Chris is very reasonable for what you get. He will build whatever you want, do a damn fine job of it, and will charge you an extremely fair price.
My advice? Talk to him. 'nuff said.

Well, like I have stated, I have talked to him and he quoted me for over 3 grand. To tell you the truth, if I wanted to order a 5 string bass from him, with absolutley NO upcharges, not only would I be extremely disapointed because it would not be even close to what I wanted, but it would actually be $100-200 out of my "budget" still.

worst case scenario, all of your basses turn into a mildly ok DP, You'd be pretty pissed off AND it would be tough to financially recover into a bass that you can dig.
Not to intrude on your party, but if you feel like you HAVE to have multiple basses and they HAVE to be speced the way you want it, make sure you got funds for a production bass that you can do what you need to if you aren't going to sink all the money into a proven choice.

There is no "head" guy as such, it's a one man operation. I ahve my concerns about his stuff, I chat with him plenty, but I can't get the images of his rather shoddy looking "scarab" bass out of my mind. Also, that strat he recently made, not the blue one which some people may be familiar with...looked rather shoddy. "Like a starter guitar" was the response of some people.
Like DP, it seems quality is variable.
