Has Gretsch been lying to us for over a decade?

Well, I have news for you. A bass that costs 350-400€ is not a cheap bass. At least in the real world, it's not.

That's a lot of money. That's half of a salary, in my country. A EU country.

Laws don't often align directly with emotions. If they did we'd be in big trouble. Like many others have said, there's boilerplate clauses that let them make changes to their productions regardless of what the advertising copy says. Those sorts of things in manufacturing of consumer goods are almost always rock-solid.

I'm didn't mention any legal issues, nor was I emotional.

I was talking about business ethics. Or ethics, in general.

Offer to send anyone who has one of these either A) a set of the correct pickups with a wiring diagram or B) a rebate for the cost of the pickups, and C) they need to cut dealers/resellers a check so that they can sell the remaining stock at a discount because they are not as originally advertised.

In my 61 (almost 62) years of life, I've come to expect very little in the way of actual support from large institutions, be they big business, government or the church. If we surfs are lucky, this will be addressed by some spin team that will deflect responsibility without actually doing anything to resolve the problem. Talk is cheap.

These organizations have their own agenda and answering to "the people" is NOT part of it.

And yet, your "two reasons" were just kind-of conjecture. If you don't know what the product is, then it sounds like you're just bandwagoning.

I actually own one of those basses, and I feel Lobster made excellent points.
It's unfortunate he got slammed for it, but he's just calling as he sees it.

I don't think he's actually the first to talk about this though. I've seen other mentions across the internet where people have disassembled that pickup and discovered it was just a giant single-coil. Some justified it with fairy-tale electronic stories and pseudo-science.

It is what it is, unfortunately.

Ran into similar behavior on a synth forum, a mod who really had no business being a mod. I intentionally got myself banned by explaining tartly how I felt about him.

Not sure if this was documented in previous pages, but the OG G2202 had a TV Jones designed humbucker (which was checked for and documented earlier). Those ones also sound great.

The G2210 (single pickup) and G2220 (double pickup) versions that came after were not designed by TV Jones, but were Gretsch's pickups. If anyone has a single pickup 2210, I believe it would be worth checking to see if this goes back to the beginning once they stopped using the TV Jones pickup. I'm also curious if any of their cheaper Junior Jet guitars are using this exact same pickup (it would save costs for them).

Of course it's conjecture. It's an internet forum, I am giving an opinion based on what I read.

I didn't interview the parts interested, nor did I studied the variables.

I just gave an opinion.

A company who says one thing and sells another is:
- a liar,
- incompetent,
- negligent.

One of the three.

Where you saw emotions here, only you can know.


I hope you enjoy your bass. Looks cool.

^^ For whatever reason, and whomever was at fault, someone in FMIC has screwed up. A small company would do a mea culpa and try to make amends in some way to the customers that have an issue and do some version of what Two Fingers suggested in #606. Maybe not give a refund or partial, but a voucher crediting on their next purchase from FMIC or GC or some other way. Many would never use them, but it would at least say to aggrieved customers, and potential new customers watching on the sidelines, that the company actually cares enough about them that they'll attempt to do what most would consider the right thing. People and corporations make mistakes, so fix it as best you can. Nothing will be 100% to everyone involved but it would at least restore faith in the brand that they actually give an excrement about you and are not just a meat puppet's wallet to harvest.

However, I bet their legal people are wondering what other potential legal implications there might be, and I'm not a lawyer, so they're doing the Fight Club approach I referenced earlier in the thread. Or they just simply don't give a flying fig.

I highly doubt they give a fig, flying or otherwise, but if you ask, they just might feel pity and offer you a Gretsch t-shirt. ;-)

Honestly, I am wondering if this is even on their radar at this point. My guess is that the complaints have to reach a critical mass before they start paying attention. Outside of Lobster's email to them, has anyone reached out?

the day Lobster’s vid was posted. So far crickets.

They weren’t Gretsch’s pickups either. They’re made under license by the factory in China making the bass for Gretsch.
