@LowEndLobster tried it on a few other pups and provided pix, but I dont recall him doing it with other mini-humbuckers like on an Epi violin bass or a Gibson SG
Yep.... and it was the staff member called Synchro who said;
There could still e two sets of windings connected out of phase with one another. I’m not saying that this is the case, but I’d have to have one in hand before saying either way.
Well, at least he's not shy about showing his complete lack of knowledge.

Got it, and it is a legitimate grievance and one which, sadly, is hardly unique. I am not sure there is a workable solution for this, and I have no confidence that Gretsch will fess up and make corrections. Aside from venting, I see no way out of this except to sell the bass for what it is and simply refuse to buy another. Gretsch has no incentive to put things right unless it is substantially hurting their bottom line.
For the record, I have no dog in this fight.

^^ I LOL'd but the non engineers over at the Wretch forum will claim it as proof the crustacean is wrong.
Do you have any other single coils that hum? Neither my Am Pro Jazz or My Strat hum at home but did at the store.
I had a 'jagmaster' six string geeetar that hummed like a mofo. none of my other bases have single coils

I'm having difficulty liking some posts. l get a server error message (red bar on screen).
I have myself made such a coil. Over 30 years ago. I was young and didn't have much resources. It would have shown on magnetic viewing as a single coil. Even the pic that user Epdo posted of the pickup windings cut in half may not have shown my join.
Having said that, I don't believe any cheap manufacturers would like to do it that way. It's preposterous extra labour. Absolute BS that they would ever contemplate the expense.
I have no skin in this but I am a lobster fan. Good work mate! I would def watch a neighborhood unwinding episode. You have no idea of the pain in store for you. Lol.
Idk if anyone at corporate hq will give a damn about this, but I hope they do for those with humbuckingless pickups. Might be cynical but corporate errors or innocent mistakes somehow always favour the business who made the error.
Didn't want to muddy the waters earlier about that style of winding earlier as tensions were running high.
