Have you ever done something like this?

I drove 2 hours to try out an Ampeg cab at this guy's house. I took my head (vintage V4B) to test the rig. Needless to say, I bought and loaded the cab. A quarter mile down the road a mailman flags me down (I'm thinking I'm being deputized or something!). He points behind me, and here comes the guy running full tilt after me! I'd left my head in his garage. Thank God he was in shape, or it would have cost me another $70 in gas to drive back and get it. STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES!

I once finished a three day recording session with a friend, only to have him put the box containing the master 2-inch tape reel (this was obviously in the analog days) on the roof of his car and drive away. Luckily, he realized it about a mile down the road, and it was still on his roof.

Last year i had a tremelo installed on my 4 string, wich is my main bass. I took the bass to where i work to show a friend (also bass player). It's about 5 min from my apt, in a mini mall, i went in and got my freind. He came outside in the parking lot and we oogled and ahh'd it for about 10 minutes . Then i put the bass back in the case and leaned it up against the trunk of the car. So we were still shootin the breeze as he was headed back into the building. I hopped in the car and headed to the apt, got about two blocks away and realised what i had done. All the blood left my head and i busted a highly illegal U turn in the middle of a busy road . I expected the bass to be gone or crushed, luckily somone saw it and placed it on the curb next to the parking space i was in. I couldn't beleive it. Thank you JESUS!

Nothing that has happened to me.

My drummer however left his kick on top of his car on the way to a gig. Got to the venue...kick pedal was still on top of his car. He dodged a major bullet there. A couple of times he forgot his firebell(yes, a firebell. It is infinitely cool, but gets annoying if he isn't playing the rest of the kit), but that was at home and not at a venue.

We have forgotten some stuff at venues a couple of times, nothing overly important though, and always got it back.

The glory that was Rome Is of another day
I've been terribly alone and forgotten in Manhattan And I'm coming home to my city by the bay

(and here's the punchline)

I left my heart in San Francisco

Off topic but gotta tell ya. On my honeymoon 4 years ago in Vegas of all places in a casino and drunk:smug: I take off my fanny pak with both my wifes and my credit cards room keys...debit cards and wads of cash and set it down on a game for what was to be a second i think to tuck in my shirt......We....I... walk away get all the way across the casino when wifey (she buys my bass gear and is my fan) "goes honey give me a five for this game"  I bolt (got stright real quick) Back thru the crowd thru hundreds of games looking for the pak...freaking out....get to the area...and .... Its gone:crying: I sware i will fly home tonight i am that upset....until a women walks over and says was that your pak lying over there? I said for the love of god yes do you have it? She said no...but some other lady said she was going to turn it in....and she did:D In Vegas of all places where they catch grandmas pickpocketing...man i was lucky and still married! Sorry off topic.

i leave my tuner and sometimes my 8" cable at my drummers house, but never anything major.

im getting into the habit of making a checklist now with every single item on it so that i know i have it packed in the van for the trip to where ever i am going and i have it packed back in when heading home.

this makes me afraid to use my new rig though, over $600 down the drain if someone steals the head, $80 per pedal if stolen, makes me re-think if i actually want to gig with a band or not, i might just get a good bass and do a direct just bass straight to PA so i dont have to worry anymore, or atleast until i get insurance on my rig.

I remember loading up a van load of stuff for a drummer on the way TO a gig - he had a TON of kit. 5 miles down the road he muses... did I remember to bring my drumsticks? He hadn't!

That's why I carry a few pairs of drumsticks in my gig bag.

I have a sort of rule of thumb about loading gear into cars/busses/etc. The more expensive it is, the closer to me it sits. If I lost my SWR cab I'd be disappointed. But not as disappointed as if I lost my Stingray (it cost twice as much as the cab). So, the Stingray always sits as close to me as possible. Seems to work.

I used to play with a guitarist who was a huge jerk. We were traveling from Ohio to Washington (the state) for a week long gig. We drove a total of three vehicles. He leaves and I notice his three guitars still sitting in my garage. I go ahead and put them in the back of the van I was driving. Many hours later we arrived and he's freaking out. I let him sweat for two days until the day of the first gig. :ninja:

my old drummer forgot the sticks a couple times.. oh man! i've forgotten my viola in many places...on the front porch at home, the stairs at school, a classroom, the bus, someone else's car, eek. i've also forgotten an expensive mogami cable...i still dont know where i left it. probably at a gig. Watch your cables, and make sure you have a spare.

Leaving for church, I left my Fender MIA jazz in its hard case next to my car in the carport. (It went really MIA!)

When I got to church, I panicked all the way back home (15 minutes) only to find my neighbor casually smiling that Sunday morning, pointing to my bass next to her car telling me I forgot my guitar! I casually smiled back, thanked her for being vigilant and rushed back in time to set up.

At least I didn't put it behind my car and back up over it like one eBayer I read selling his broken MTD 535! Ouch!

I still feel bad about this to this very day.

I lived and practiced in a not quite so nice part of town, and loading in or out for a gig always required someone to be down by the vehicle(s)- especially after sundown. We got to the venue and the drummer was setting up- he realizes he's missing a piece of hardware, which I specifically remember carrying down the stairs, and vaguely remember setting it on the stoop of the steps. I RACED back to the building and the drum thingy was still on the steps- however, on the freeway I blazed by a cop car who was parked checking speed. He pulled out and pulled over a similar looking car. I really feel bad some random dude got a ticket.

So my brother finishes up playing for his cello recital, dad takes the cello out to the van, and sets it on top while he unlocks the doors for us. 3-5 miles down the road, going 30-40mph, we hear a thump....

That's right, the cello (in a soft case) slid of the top of our minvan car and bounced off the road...

We were insured for the rental cello, but it was a very nice, several decades old handmade instrument, and you just can't replace instruments like that. The owner of the shop almost cried when he saw the condition. In the end it was fixed, but he said it was never as nice as it was before the 40 mph impact with the pavement.

No instrument gear ever goes on top of my car, EVER!
