Well, I agree. So let's put it this way: There is no rational reason to believe in ghosts. Maybe they exist, but there is no evidence for their existence.

Consider physics for a moment:
just as many parallel sheets of paper, which are two dimensional objects (breadth and length) can exist in a third dimension (height), parallel universes can also exist in higher dimensions.....
so it would safe to assume one possible explanation for ghost sightings is that we are actually seeing into another dimension...or parallel universe.

I had a feeling science itself would end up being questioned in this thread.
That'd be really cool, but there's no reason to believe it. Your assertion that parallel universes "can exist in higher dimensions" is completely unfounded. There is plenty of mathematical and cosmological speculation about the possibility of a multiverse, but no experimental evidence to support it. Further, even if other universes do exist, there's no reason to believe that we would or could have conscious interaction with them, and even then one could only speculate as to what the nature of that interaction might be.
I suppose it is "safe to assume" that a "possible explanation" for ghost sightings is that we are actually seeing into other dimensions, but it is not safe to assume that we are.
Finally, you are not talking about physics, you are talking about metaphysics since there is no physical evidence of anything you surmised.

Ok well, seems to me that the scientists showed up and interrupted the cool, creepy story thread and by stating their disbelief, triggering the debate thereby effing up a cool creepy story thread. If you had just let it be, the argument would not have broken open and we'd just have some creepy stories to read about.
Maybe just once, you could have just let this be about creepy cool unproven stories instead of going on and on about scientific method.
If just once you suspend disbelief for a minute and think about how your body would react and feel if you were in the situation described, you can experience some of the creepiness and chills that the story evokes.
You know, just as good fiction evokes emotion. Besides we all know that scientific types are all a bunch of Lord of the Rings fanboys.
Would it kill you to just let the creepy story thread be just that for once? You don't have to read or believe, just let it be.

If you can't mention it don't mention it, it's too much of a tease. I seriously have no clue what you are alluding to.
You know, this thread was really interesting- a mixture of creepy stories and some intelligent and fascinating possible explanations for phenomena that is not easily understood.
To me it wasn't the 'scientists' that ruined it, but the arguments attacking science itself.
I find the natural world and the way we experience it infinitely more interesting than superstition and facile explanations that seem likely or obvious but that have no basis in fact or how we understand things to work.
Instead of jumping to discredit the skeptics why not seek a bit of knowledge instead? It is infinitely more rewarding than pseudo science and superstition.
