have you ever smuggled some bass gear into you house?

I don't smuggle per se. My latest one started as "Honey I am looking at getting this cheap bass from CL and refinish it", which lead to it needs new pups, and if it's getting painted, I need a new pickguard. And well it would sound great with a new set of flats on it. Her response was "I thought this was going to cost $20!" nudge, wink wink.

She thinks it's better i'm playing or working on a bass then holding up a bar somewhere.

I hope my wife won't sell my gear for what I told her I paid for it.

I almost always under value when asked. My wife doesn't care much, but I have more than I need and I'll usually get a look or some type of grumbling. Awhile ago I had a 2x10, a Terror amp and an 62' AV RI stashed in my closet. The worst part is my 6 yr old knows exactly what I have and when she see something new she tell my wife that Dad got a new bass or whatever. I've moved most of this stuff on and the only thing I have stashed now is a TC 450 amp that fits nicely in my dresser.

My big problem is I bought most everything before I was married so as I find stuff she is like "I know you went out and bought that!" Of course I'm like "they don't even make these anymore... so... go figure"

One time, I bought a gray Yamaha Recording Custom 4-piece drumset to replace the gray 4-piece Slingerland set I had been borrowing from a friend. I'm not sure if the missus figured it out, but I noticed her looking at it kind of funny. I finally told her about it a year or so later. She was fine about it, but I think she gets tired of the cymbal boxes the UPS guy keeps leaving at my front door.

It amazes me how some guys can actually hide purchases from their wives. When I was married I never hid anything. She didn't always like it, but she knew about every purchase I made.

The woman I'm with now is a guitarist and is very supportive. She may sometimes make an argument against why I shouldn't purchase something, but it's usually "why you shouldn't purchase it now", and I hate to admit it, but she always makes sense.

^Yeah, I BS L&R here but I can't imagine really living w/someone who I had to hide stuff from. THAT would actually suck pretty hard. My wife cringes a bit when I buy something I don't *need*, but she really is the better one to make *those* decisions, & I don't give a crepe. She paid for several customs & a PILE of rig gear when I wasn't working. I do dishes & laundry. BFD.

Yep, same here. I kid about my wifes reactions to purchases (she's actually pretty cool with all of it). But, my FIRST wife was a totally different story. True story...We bought a harp for her back in '94? only to trade up for another at twice the price a year later, and she couldn't see any reason for me to drop a few dollars extra when I wanted to try new strings, flats or whatever for my chosen instrument.

I've come to an arrangement with the custom "official" at my house. She takes keyboard gear kick backs in exchange for me smuggling contra band bass gear into my garage. She is no knock over either. Last time it cost me a gkmb212 that she now uses as a keyboard amp. Ouch!
