have you ever smuggled some bass gear into you house?

I do occasional instrument and amp repair. On several occasions, I've brought home equipment to "repair", only to tell "she who must be obeyed" that I got a great deal on that piece. Last bass I bought, a Steinberger Spirit, was bought with her encouragement

I love these threads. I don't really say much about it to her, especially since I busted her on a 900 dollar pair of boots once that she literally has worn once. :D

At any rate, I never buy any new gear.

Her - "When did you buy that bass thingy?"
Me - "Oh this one? This is Steve's."
Her - "Oh. Who's Steve?"
Me - "A guy from work."

:D

Oh H*ll yes! However I have a home office and can be home during the day when the box comes. I am sure not to have more than a few of my basses on the wall - and the others are in the gear closet with the empty cases. I only make a point to show her the trades - "didn't cost me anything!" meanwhile , she brings new clothes mixed in with the dry cleaning!!

white lies are always needed to keep a marriage going...

I don't do the white lie thing because I find that can't remember them later and we know that women all have photographic memories LOL. I prefer releasing information to the wife regarding music gear purchases on a need to know basis. Also I recommend having a personal slush fund checking account separate from our joint accounts. I throw $50 a paycheck into the slush fund and my gig money, then use that account for buying toys to stay off the radar. I have so much PA and bass gear that the wife does not notice anything new anyway as long as I don't mention it.

I bought a classic 1971 911S on ebay and had it shipped to my friends. He drove it for a while before I got enough courage to bring it home. I told my wife I won it in a raffle. It took her two years before she finally called me out and said - you really thought I believed you won that thing - you have one week to sell it or I'll do it myself. At least she let me keep it for two years.

Now she counts pedals so I keep them stached elsewhere and just swapping them out. (which has lead her to look at colors now) Yea we could have a completely open and honest relationship but it's much more intriguing this way.

My wife never says anything about the money, only the space. Our house is bigger than I want but it's not big enough for her plans.

"Honey, we need a sun room." What? I don't even like the sun roof in the car.

I can't imagine really living with someone who I had to hide stuff from. THAT would actually suck pretty hard.

+1. I'm in 4-years long relationship, and we discuss all the big purchases. Well, small ones too, because we care about each other and our interests and we enjoy communication with each other. That's why we're together.

Also i can't see the point of hiding your bass purchases. If you can afford something, you just buy it (not needing to hide). If you can't, then you don't. If you can't and still buy, it will reveal anyway. Maybe i'm missing something here?

By the way, i don't want to offend anyone, to each it's own. And i've really enjoyed some jokes from this thread.

I joke with my wife about it, but I can buy what I want....I don't tell her what I buy, but she knows that something is up when I tell her she can't leave the house because she needs to sign something for UPS. We trust each other, and are both responsible, for the most part. I decided to get into effects this week....it has been an expensive week.

The separate account for music stuff has worked well for us too. That is the account my paypal is tied too.

No secrets, no hassles. Been married for 20 years and never concealed a purchase or anything else from her (really). As I flip gear she smiles and says she's just thankful she's not a bass. She's a keeper so I kept her and I'd marry her all over again in a heartbeat!
