have you ever smuggled some bass gear into you house?

I can't sneak stuff in, my wife is too smart and by that I mean she knows an Avalon U5 from a whatever. I have my 3rd U5 in the house now (a friends) and if I get it she said I had better keep it forever.

Got a whole bunch of goodies in today(Tuning Keys, Bridge, pickguard,ect.). She got to the package before me and brought it to me, no questions asked. Guess she's giving up on asking and lecturing me about it. Makes me wonder what the hell she bought?haha

i might not be a guy But I have the same issue...with the hubs. I dont buy $$$ stuff...I'll keep the $ down but Im always afraid of getting a new bass...so what do I do? LAYAWAY! Then pay little bits and it's suddenly home. Oh jee, where did that come from?

Thats what i did for my little Squier. haha!

but it's annoying sometimes...he buys a $500 camera-i have no issues with, but gives me that look of 'oh brother' when I want another bass.

i do wonder why the wives who know you play and all that, have a fit? didnt they know this before?

If I were you I would do a payment plan like at Zzsounds so he want see a big bill. I have done it before and she never even noticed since the notes were so small. If he is buying stuff here and there when ever he wants I dont see why you can't by a new bass. Do what you want , they all get over it eventually.

See, you could have walked right in the front door while your lady was watching TV, said "Hey honey, look what I just picked up for the band, I got it 30% off!" and strolled to your music room looking like the master of your house, and gotten the same result without having to seem like a sneak.

+1 It took me a few years to figure this out. My first few purchases after marriage went through a 'slow integration' process, but now I just tell her what I am buying, how much it costs, and why it is worth it to me. We're not starving and our house is paid up with no CC debt, so if she doesn't like it then I don't give a damn. It's much better this way.

What is funny is that she routinely pulls the 'how long have you had this' business with stuff I've had for YEARS. The women don't have photographic memories, they just like to see if they can fluster our memories and once we are on the defensive they know they have nailed us for something. If you're confident in your memory they'll have nothing on you, even if your memory is wrong. I've seen it many times in my marriage alone. Man up, gentleman. :p
