have you ever smuggled some bass gear into you house?

My girlfriend came home to find a vintage Peavey 2x15 cab in the front room, she didnt seem to mind. Her exact words were 'wow, it's big', which i replied to with 'That's what she said' and started giggling my arse off.
I hope she reacts the same to the 4x10 + 1x15 stack i've got my eye on.
She WAS taken aback by the appearance of a double bass and flight case that she found in the front room one day (it's about 7 foot tall) :)

I'm struggling with the idea of smuggling right now, I've seen a fantastic deal on a new rig, but I know she won't approve, I'm contemplating, storing at a band mates for a while, then slowly incorporating it piece by piece into my music room!!

Trouble is, if she sniffs that I've spent half a grand on gear when we are saving for our wedding, The I'm a dead man!!!

If you're getting married, you're already a DEAD MAN WALKING..down the aisle!

Good luck on both endeavors!

My wife bought a new car without even discussing it with me. Then she called me at work and interrupted my class(I teach high school)to tell me about the wonderful satellite radio it had. Believe me, I don't feel any need to hide when I pick up another $150 Peavey.

Sounds like you have bigger issues than anyone here trying to sneak a piece of gear into the house.

All the time. After about 4 months of my revolving gear store, my wife gave up keeping track... Now she just says "that one's pretty" "that one looks like the other one" "i hope you sold something before you got that" etc.

I hope my wife won't sell my gear for what I told her I paid for it.

+1

My wife always pays attention to the big stuff. She generally doesn't care as long we have the extra cash. But she does hold it against me and always asks when am I taking her shopping. If it's been awhile and a few purchases down the road, she'll start listing off everything she is owed. When it comes to the small things, I use the old "it was on CL and a steal!".

I'm sorry for you guys (and girls) who have to debate or argue or hide gear purchases. My fiancé and I are "enablers" for each other, and neither of us have a problem with going short on other stuff to be able to afford gear. We've got no kids, and as long as the bills are paid and the dogs get fed then it's all good. You can't take the cash with you, and as far as I'm concerned, she / he who dies with the most gear, wins. ;)

Wow, I feel sorry for most of you. Really, that's no life, hiding, lying, smuggling. Get a divorce y'all.

My wife and I have three bank accounts. One for the bills plus everything else we spend together and separate accounts for each of us. We give ourselves 150,- pocket money each month that we may spend any way we want. It means that I sometimes have to save a couple of months for a big purchase but there's nothing wrong with that. And my wife is very supportive of my hobbies to boot. A true gem she is.

Luckily I have an (Al Bundy Room) Casita that is my Music room and PC Gaming room (nothing bugs me more than my wife carrying on a one sided conversation with me while I'm in the middle of a COD Clan Match). Anyway, I sell stuff and keep a big balance in my Pay Pal acct & I always have 'undisclosed to spouse' purchases held at shipper so I pick it up and sneak it in. If she does come in the Casita (she rarely does) and questions something in it I just tell her it's another band members. I do feel guilty lying but heh. She doesn't have any problem spending over $100 when we go out to eat and I hate going out to eat...boring! That money is just flushed down the toilet.

I didn't exactly try to hide the upright when I got it - it went on a stand in the living room and she said "that thing's huge" the next time she walked in.

But then the band wanted me to play mandolin in a couple of tunes, and being as how I'm a bass player I could see she might consider buying a mando kind of a frivolous expenditure. So I bought the mandolin anyway, and moved the upright into the practice space in the basement.

When she walked into the living room and saw me playing the mando, she said "what's that thing?" I said, "I know the upright was taking up a lot of room in here, so I got a little one to practice on in the living room, and moved the big one downstairs." She was impressed with how considerate I am about stuff like that.

genius, I want to be just like you when I grow up... I'm 30 now so I don't know when that will be!

Still Hiding a new Fender Jazz from her in the Man cave. Had a gig This past Saturday and could not bring it because she was there. Just don't feel like having the speech just yet.

What's the point in having it if you can't even play it?

If you guys know your spouse would absolutely say no, there has to be a reason. If you can't afford it, don't buy it.
