Having BassCliff Gig Report Withdrawals

Hello my friends,

I've sent out Zoom GTG invitations. If anyone else would like to join please send me your email in a PM. Otherwise, these are the two gig memory videos I'm sharing on the Facebook this evening. This is our opener when The True Willie Band backs up our Reba McEntire tribute artist, Corrie Sachs.



Here's the lovely Ms. Amanda Kate singing a Gretchen Wilson song at The Ranch a couple of years ago.

We are in the Bayfield/Washburn area, love kayaking around but we're more shoreline and bay kayakers, not wide open on the lake.

As for the travel thing, funny that they say don't come here, but if you do please spend some $$ here. Yeah right, you don't get it both ways. I made notes of a couple of places in town that posted notes about how they want people to stay away so I intend to not shed any of my $$ there in the future. Maybe not a "nice" approach but just how I feel.

Any gig where Amanda wears short shorts it's a good memory! :)




This gig memory goes back to our acoustic trio days. Plus it's at the Orange County Fair which will need to live in memories after this year's cancellation.

Jay wrote and sings this song. One of his best. I miss this song. He doesn't sing anymore so it never gets played. It's a little long at 5:45 but if you need to kill some time take a listen. ;)

We usually just go over to Meyers beach by Cornocopia and paddle over to the caves. Played a gig over on Madeline Island once years ago. Come summer time the locals will feel much different about paying tourists. However I guess in some ways I understand where they are coming from, places like that have only limited medical facilities and could easily be overwhelmed.

Ha, I see the signs all over up there all the time and I won't even attempt that spelling.

My father in law had a nice boat for years and we'd catch lots of lake trout and whitefish. Miss those days, and him.

We're kayak people now, perfect amount of maintenance in those.

I'll post here if we get another Bayfield gig this summer but not looking good.

Excellent, Cliff. Both were great, but I really enjoyed the performance and full mix from The Ranch - WOW.

Hey Grant - you need to convince Jay to bring that one back. It's a good song that should be heard, and your Jack Casady will sound fantastic on that tune.:bassist:

Well, had a “text meeting” with my band last night.

Due to my state extending the shutdown another month, but opening up State and municipal parks as long as social distancing occurs, we are planning to play a few of those (provided the state allows us permission) to get our gig legs back.

The band leader is contacting Pierce County Department of Parks & Recreation today - hopefully that will result in good news!

Well last weekend Mrs Bassman was watching a bit of TV and I decided to dust off the bass / practice amp in the garage and have a jam.
I took the iPad as I needed to learn 'Mr Brightside' from The Killers for a wedding we are doing in Mid September. Guitarist had already learnt the song and said it was quite hard to learn on the guitar... then I remembered they recorded that whole album down a semitone - so I learnt it as per the album version... there's quite a few Bb, Ab, Db in the song if you learn it in the same key as on the album.

I also mucked around and learnt a couple of bass lines - simply because I really like them
'Shine a little love' from ELO has a great bass line... also learnt 'Don't bring me down' from ELO - which is dead easy
'Owner of a lonely heart' from Yes was a little more tricky to learn (Damn you Chris Squire!) but a great bass line all the same.
If anyone is interested, have a listen to the song 'People' from Misex. (below)
Misex are a New Zealand band and were popular from about 1978 to 1984 when they split, but I just love their songs. We have keys in my band so I might suggest it to them at next rehearsal

Jay used to keep his voice in shape by singing in the car whenever he was driving. A few years ago he sold his car and is vary happy doing Uber/bus or walking. So he says his voice is out of shape and doesn't want to sing. Plus he hates the sound of his voice. He's written so many great songs that never get played anymore. :(

I agree the JC would sound good on that tune. I'd love to hear it with the current electric with drums sine up! :cool:

Yes! Jay has a wonderful voice. (I like it much better than the other guys. Shhh!) Your melodic bass lines were excellent, really a standout and interesting to listen to. Very nice song. Yes, Jay should sing more, a lot more.
