The short scales are interesting, but you can get really well made custom configured SS P's and J's with a lot more options for at least a $1,000 less. Actually with all of the upcharges listed in the specs, make that $1,500 less.

Three startups also worked for some other guy who made a buncha Fender lookalikesAgain? Is this a third venture? What's going on?
I like the headstock better than the last D.Lakin basses.
By "all made in USA production" you think it means that he and his partners make the bodies and neck? Or you think they'll be USACG or Warmoth production bodies and they'll "shape" them? If they're truly hand-made by him and the crew, that might warrant the pricetag. But if they are just finish sanding bodies spit out on a factory line, not even close. I can put together my own "Fender-type bass" for a LOT less than that. I own a parts P bass that has a PAF era DiMarzio, Hipshot Ultralites, weighs less than 8 pounds and sounds/plays fantastic. I have less than $500 in it.
Sure, he has a great reputation. But if he's asking is to plunk down three grand, he's going to have to tell me EXACTLY what I'm paying for. (Not that I would sink that into a Fender clone anyway.)

I should send him a design, and charge him 3000 USD for it!The headstock logo is awful. It makes the bass look cheap.
Yeah, as much as I've ranted and raved about wanting my holy grail bass (lefty 1966 Jazz Bass with all of the bling), there's no way I'd be willing to pay the 15 grand price tag one of those basses go for.Whether they are worth it or not, I will never ever spend $3k for any bass!
May as well. My Skyline 55-01 has been my workhorse for over 10 years now. I'll have a US Lakland someday once I find a can't pass bargain! What’s also interesting is that these are twice the price of his previous basses. Wasn’t the original concept supposed to be quality that was closer to a US Lakland for much less money? For 3K, I’d just buy a Lakland.
Those sure are original and unique!!Link Removed
