Many years after becoming a Pantera fan, and really moving on to a lot of different music since I was in high school, I actually find Phil to be the real genius of the group. I think he is definitely one of metal's best vocalists, regardless of specific subgenre.Phil has got to be the biggest loser, douchebag, idiot, and pile of crap I've seen in Metal. His annoying "I'm a tough mofo" attitude is so immature, and it makes him look like a bloody fool. I can't see how anyone could like him.

Kyuss is pretty much the heaviest band out there, there's nothing quite like cranking Blues for the Red Sun, for me, that album is as genius as a Bach contrapuntal line.
+1
To me Kyuss is still the undisputed champion of heavyness.

lol, thats my old band.
Sweet!!! They are playing in Dayton tomorrow night. I'm gonna try and check it out.
LOL, sabbath is the reason anyone even has a horse.
Inventing something doesn't make you the best at it, (something a lot of the people on here don't seem to understand) just the most creative. Sabbath is heavy, yes, and they used to be the heaviest, but just because they created that heavy sound doesn't mean other bands didn't take it and make it that much heavier.
Deathklok is pretty killer.
Some nu-metal bands I love love love that are pretty good: August Burns Red (not super fast but great break downs)
Conducting From the Grave ( super technical pretty heavy IMO)
Whitechapel
In Flames
Job For A Cowboy (these guys are insane)
Thats all I can think off the top of my head. Just gotta find the right songs and they are great.
Flogging Molly... so true. Only people I've ever seen move an audience except for Lamb Of God..... The wall of Death is scary scary stuff.
