Many years after becoming a Pantera fan, and really moving on to a lot of different music since I was in high school, I actually find Phil to be the real genius of the group. I think he is definitely one of metal's best vocalists, regardless of specific subgenre.

I try to ignore his rants though. :smug:

their riffs are still the heaviest around. if you took the 4 sabbath guys, warped them in time and gave them their same vintage gear from the 70s and had them do a legit recording, it would blow the roof of anything trying to copy it.

and youre right, just cause they invented it doesnt make them the best, they just happen to be the best at it anyways. nobody riffs harder than sabbath.

Hmm, I wouldn't classify a lot of these bands as heavy.... Maybe I'm a total dick but I just don't consider groups like Black Sabbath to be "really heavy"..... I mean, they set a good watermark back in the day, but heavy has gotten heavy as a very heavy thing these days.... and probably the newest bands will be eclipsed someday as well...

Also I'd just like to say that I think the true measure of heaviness must be taken from live performances, not recordings...

I've always thought Dimmu was pretty oppressive as well, but for me the facepaint and image gig kinda detracts from it (in a laughable way unfortunately)
