heaviest band ever

I love At the Gates... but i hate them for unknowingly spawning the crap that's been dubbed "metalcore".

"Hey bro... check out this band i just found!"(it's really 2002)

"Woah what are they called man?"

"At the Gates."

"Woot. We should play something like this"

"Like? We can just COPY the riffs and the parts that we can't play we'll just jam on the open E while our friends practice thier kickboxing moves."

"Hella sweet man!"

"Lets go to Express and buy girl jeans now!"

"Woot, i got my mom's credit card!!1"

*bro hi-five*
hahaha

I'm glad I got to witness At the Gates live in '96. What a killer band, but agreed that they spawned way too much garbage. I used to write for a metal webzine, my apartment was FILLED with promos of bad At the Gates ripoff bands back then.

As said before:

Isis-awesome live boring on record but still very good

Pelican-brilliant live crushing

Sleep-Before they formed high on fire

RIP Iron Monkey

Less of the Grind/Death metal bands heavy is not fast lol :ninja:

they were 30 years ago, they aren't anymore. There are plenty of "listenable" bands that are much heavier than sabbath now. Its a constant race to see who can be heavier; sabbath's horse died a while ago.

LOL, sabbath is the reason anyone even has a horse. and their horse is still bigger better and badder than anyone elses. just cause they werent in drop Z tuning doesnt mean other bands are heavier. most bands that are considered heavy in that style today are just huge sabbath rip off bands. electric wizard rules, but 95% of their riffs are just sabbath clone riffs.

i never got see sabbath in the 70s because im 26, but theres no way that anyone riffs harder than they do. they are the pinnacle of heavy, and no matter how many guitar tracks, drop tuned instruments, or how many sunn cabs you can play at once, no one will ever top sabbath.

sweet leaf > anything else

I always think this one comes down to difference of opinion as to what is meant by "heavy." If you mean the brutal, chaotic, screamy type stuff, old Dillinger Escape Plan is pretty freakin' heavy. (They were a crazy live band to see with Dmitri as their singer.) If you mean sludgy, doomy type stuff I always think of Sabbath or a couple of Alice in Chains "Grind". Not that AIC can outslugde bands like Kyuss and Sunn on the whole, but that's a sludgy riff.
