heaviest band ever

Hatebreed has always made me want to go smash things. They're not the heaviest or fastest band but their mix of Metal and Hardcore comes across as very aggressive and in your face. Such a fun band to see live.

I really find that the faster it is the less heavy is sounds and feels to me. Slower more articulated songs just seem to push through you rather than run past really quickly.

:rollno: Must... not... let... music snobbery... overtake...

"Heavy" is such a subjective term. I suppose that's why there are so many different answers on here. "Heavy" means a lot of things to a lot of people... riff-wise, loudness, volume, speed, dirt, etc etc etc

I suppose if i HAD to give ONE answer pertaining to my OWN deffinition of "Heavy", i would say:

Corrupted

PS: I was talking about this same subject with a friend yesterday and we both agree that Soundgarden is one hell of a heavy band that was never really looked at and appriciated in that way... listen to Jesus Christ Pose and TELL me later awesome bands like Botch didn't listen to Soundgarden.

Deathklok is pretty killer.
Some nu-metal bands I love love love that are pretty good: August Burns Red (not super fast but great break downs)
Conducting From the Grave ( super technical pretty heavy IMO)
Whitechapel
In Flames
Job For A Cowboy (these guys are insane)
Thats all I can think off the top of my head. Just gotta find the right songs and they are great.
Flogging Molly... so true. Only people I've ever seen move an audience except for Lamb Of God..... The wall of Death is scary scary stuff.

Please do no use the term nu-metal to describe ABR, nor should you use it to describe any of the other you listed. ABR is Metalcore, melodic metal.

Yes I am being picky, but nu-metal is Korn, Slipknot, and Distrubed. ABR, White Chapel, In Flames, etc are all far from that. If you mean NEW metal, then I have no problems with that description as they have come out in the past few years.
