I own both the Bass Drive and the Rust Ride. They're similar, but IME the Bass Drive is slightly more organic sounding and more flexible. I love my Bass Drive. Bought the Rust Ride to see if I could find something with a smaller footprint that might sound better. The Bass Drive is still on my board.

if it helps, the fulltone bassdrive doesn't sound anything like a tubescreamer to me, or even a modified TS. (IMO, it's ALOT better).
thanx JohnK.. that info for the fulltone came from someone else.. maybe they are misinformed or just don't have great amps or know how to tweak/eq them! p p
I'm not sure if its exactly what you want but the heaviest pedal ive ever used was a johnson distortion EQ that usualy stays off because its usualy too heavy for what im doing. You can get em on amazon.com for like 20 bucks you just gotta play with the knobs a bit to get a good tone.
Well I tried my bass through the guitar board (below), and found the Fullbore Metal surprisingly useful. It's not nearly as fizzy with my bass as it is with the single bridge humbucker guitar it usually has put through it.
The Megalith Delta is too fuzzy with the bass, strangely enough, since it is grindier on guitar than the FBM is. Oh well, different instruments I guess, different frequency responses.
I'm not about to put a Fullbore on the bass board though, as the TFR and Bluebeard do that thing already, and in three different flavors.
I'm saving my pennies for a Mountainking Megalith and/or a Wampler Triple Wreck, though I have my suspicions the Wreck won't work either as demos make it sound a lot like the Megalith Delta, on treble guitar anyway. Megaliths....
I'm convinced this sound I'm looking for will be found with combining distortion/drive/eq pedals with careful amp (preamp section) adjustments. The Mesa M9 has a 5 section preset knob for eq'ing (plus a parametric eq and separate graphic eq channel). I've found that position 2, which is a lowmid hump setting works best for pulling boulders out of distortion pedals. I was using position 4 which is a mid hump, which though awesome with fuzzes (screaming harmonics), was not so good for bouldering.
For now, (since I'm broke for a while and will be using my current board for a project over the next few months) I'm going to experiment more with the B3K/Submarine/amp combo to see what I can come up with. I don't think fuzz is the answer to this puzzle.
Thanks again everyone for contributing. It's totally apparent that similar effects yield different results with different gear. I knew this already, but this thread is teaching me again. Must be an important lesson...

Any Suggestions? Is the Pickle Pie more of a Fuzz than the Phat Phuk, Have temporarily have a Budget Distortion Ibanez PD7 (seems to generate a bit too much feedback it seems when driving it into a Cry Baby bass wah) which would be better to drive into the Cry Baby, a darkglass BK3/BK7/ New BK Vintage or one of the Wren and Cuff overdrives..
Play through a SVT CL (2006 USA model or a ampeg V4 sometimes) Use drop C sharp and Drop C sometimes.. Thanx PP

PP - The Phat Phuk isn't a fuzz effect, and the Pickle Pie is, so yeah the Pickle Pie is more of a fuzz than the Phat Phuk.

Well... I tried the B7K and it wasn't what I wanted it to be.
It is great, like everyone says, but I was hoping for more control over my distortion tone than I was already getting from the B3K and Submarine Designer. If I didn't have the Sub D, I would have kept the B7K, but it was redundant on my board.
Shame, because it is a really nice preamp/drive/distortion effect. Worthy of the accolades it receives.
So I've ordered a new B3K (MIUSA Spencer version), which isn't a tone upgrade, but is a mechanical upgrade. Still, I miss my MIFinland version already...
Bottom line; nothing has changed since my last update. I think I will mess around some more with blending and combining what I already have. I am absolutely convinced the sound I'm looking for won't happen with one effect alone. I may be limiting myself to possibilities by using only one kind of bass guitar. I mean, no one will dispute that the Thumb is articulate, but it is also quite particular with effects. It's possible that a neck pickup may get me closer, and the Thumb doesn't have a neck pickup, or anything even close to a neck pickup. So, I may be fishing in the wrong pond, so to speak. Maybe... Every other tone I get from the Thumb is exactly the tone I want, and can't be achieved with any other bass I've played (admittedly, not many, but still...)

When I got my Stingray HH it opened up my tone over my H. I am all for the neck pickup.
I am loving the B7k but I can imagine the redundancy you have with the designer. Redundancy is my largest problem and probably a lot of peoples with larger boards.

Have you tried an OCD by fulltone? I use that and the boss ODB 3. I also have the B7K and I can get some seriously raunchy sounds come out of my cab. Serious raunch. Not sure if it'll work for you but I read your list in your profile and don't think I saw the OCD in there. Sorry if I missed it. I've heard the OSD by fuzzorocious is awesome and fr what I've heard samples of, it's mean as hell. I plan to get one someday.
Yeah Dazon, I'm trying to stay busy. School has me mixing my photography with my bass playing, which is kinda cool. So another stage show is on the horizon for sure...

I don't use pedals but I thought this demo of the Aguilar Agro was pretty sweet......the .37 sec. mark is pretty heavy!!
Have you psyched yourself out on liking anything?

I see from your list that you've not tried any Dwarfcraft pedals. To me, their whole line just screams heavy, crazy, unbridled distortion, fuzz, and overdrive. My brief experience with an Eau Claire Thunder left my bandmates running away in fear...and then you've got all the other pedal in their lineup, like the Internet, Shiva, Hair of the Dog, Great Destroyer, and so on. I've got to think that you'd be well advised to give them a listen and a try if you can. For me, trying out the ECT completely redefined my idea of things like "massive low end".

And no, I haven't psyched myself out of anything, save what I've already sampled or researched myself.
Finding single effects, or even combinations of effects that will reproduce this particular sound in my head is challenging at best. Like I said, I've gotten close with combinations of what I have already. But something is still missing, something.... bouldery... idk... not buzzy, not fuzzy, not fizzy, not clangy, not twangy.... bouldery...
Could be I just need to plug a different bass into my amp, but 90% of what I want out of my bass sound comes from what I've got already; and other 'common' basses/amps I've tried sound too generic to me to warrant another attempt at changing my basic rig.
Still, I have a few basses on my wish list that sound nothing like a Thumb bass, and not much like other basses I've tried yet either, so maybe saving up for a Streamer or Fortress is the way to go. Like I mentioned above... it could be I just need a neck pickup... hmmm... rout the Thumb maybe? I shudder a bit at the thought...

My poor student lifestyle makes this process a slow one, unfortunately.
Again, I don't need anymore fuzz, or overdrive... I need a distortion (and not a Rat, paaleeeeezzzz... buzzz... not even close!).
Ever kick a Buick sized boulder down a mountain and have it start an avalanche of other Buick sized boulders?... Toss in 10 or so giant (like to stew a rhino in) iron cauldrons down into that mess and you'll start to understand what I'm after...
Oh, I've been messing a lot with the reverb/delay thing and it does help get me closer. So the Dispatch Master is on like constantly while I chase this noise in my head.
