I own a '93 Warwick Streamer 5 stringer, on that stands back on a Steinberger L-5. The Steini has 3.6 kg, the Warwick has 3.9 kg and sounds like hell, best 5er that i ever had. I dislike heavy gear, 4kg is the max I would buy; that hinders me to get a MM Sting Ray, also sounding like hell, but the weight ... no way.

My Ray 34 is 9.0 pounds.

The weight and the neck are hard to completely surrender to.

If it wasn't for that tone, I'd sell it.

Once you go light, everything else becomes a boat anchor. I did something similar, now all of my basses are pretty light, the heaviest bass which was pretty light compared to some now feels like a boat anchor in my "new" herd. Even my one five string bass, a Fender MB5 is around 7 1/2 lbs.

Agreed.

My Ray34 and two Fender Jazz basses are 9 pounds plus each.

I love the tone and feel, but the weight has been such a deterrent lately.

I'm having a thinline (semi-hollow with F hole) Jazz body cut as I type.

If this body swap works out, I'll get a 2nd and see if the builder will cut a RAY34 thinline.

I had a Carvin SB4000 made with swamp ash body due to all I had heard of swamp ash being lighter than Alder and for a more aggressive sound. I had Alder body and Walnut top which I had made with my Carvin Icon 5. That SB4000 was heavy for Swap Ash body and felt just as heavy as the Icon 5.
