Hey, my band has started a Spotify playlist that highlights some of the best, but less heard, funk rock tracks floating around out there. Anyone have any additions to suggest? We don't mind including multiple tracks by the same band, but we're trying to steer clear of the most prominent hits...more back catalog and deep cuts. edit for clarification: Bands like Fishbone, Chili Peppers, Infectious Grooves, Spin Doctors and wandering into the more alternative side of things, with bands like Primus, Bad Brains and Firehose. Does no one listen to this stuff anymore? It seems rarer and rarer. Anyway, click here for the link!
Just to be clear, for anyone who might not be clicking the playlist link, the funk rock I'm talking about is the genre that emerged in the late 80s and 90s, with bands like Fishbone, Chili Peppers, Infectious Grooves, Spin Doctors and wandering into the more alternative side of things, with bands like Primus, Bad Brains and Firehose. With the exception of Chili Peppers and some recent Suicidal Tendencies stuff, I don't really hear anyone playing it these days. I expect it doesn't suit a lot of folks' taste, but surely someone out there still likes it...besides me... Not that the stuff posted above isn't great funk and soul. I'm just looking for the rockier stuff for this playlist.
Yep, relatively underrated genius and lots of stuff with TM Stevens on bass duties Check out his ColorCode album too if you like a less processed 3 piece jangley funk
