Try this one.

A charcoal gray with chalkstripe suit is always a safe bet. Dressy but not pretentious. Plus it's an outfit you'll be able to use for anything you'll ever need a suit for (e.g. wedding, funeral, church, christening, bar mitzvah, etc.) so it's not just a specialized buy for stage.

Otherwise dark charcoal (avoid black) pants with a really nice blazer. Silk/wool blends always look good, and they hold their shape throughout the course of the evening, so you don't end up looking like a rumpled mess at the end of the night like half the guests will. ;)

New band plays weddings and corporate events. They don't wear tuxedos, and said they want to up their fashion game and start moving away from the traditional black suits.

I have to go buy clothes this week.

When I asked for help they advised me to look at what the Jimmy Fallon band is wearing, or Justin Timberlake. Every picture I see of those guys - they're wearing black suits.

I know nothing about style. I wear black jeans, black T-shirts, and black boots when I play. I wear jeans and Ts for everything else in my life outside of weddings and funerals.

I know I can ask the band to be more specific, but I'd rather ask the fine folks at Talkbass first.

Can you help dress me as stylishly as possible? I know absolutely nothing style in 2017. The last time I bought stylish dress clothes they looked like this....

I need help.
Go with the blue suit Tubbs has one--- looks good to me!!

Can't go wrong if all in black. How much you can get away with is contingent with your age group. I wear all black including black shirt on almost all my gigs. I started collecting very cool ties over the years to add a little interest. Always appropriate. Alas I am old. but this works well for me.

Holy guacamole JoeNerve: but OldBlastard just became my style guru. He's a Target clearing rack master. If like me, you're past the big 5-0 (no offense), there's a new freedom from peer pressure. The gig may be corporate, but it's still entertainment. You just need a little twist on the business suit. Oh, and we're definitely going to need pics.

i like various shades of black/charcoal/grey ... i still like thinner ties , but colorful ... thick ones are hot like a scarf ..!!

i have a tux ... often i'd wear the tux coat with black jeans ... tux shirt , shirt/tie , t-shirt ... socks optional

in some of my 80's bands , when we'd dress similarly ... we'd take a trip down to the local tux shop and look for stuff they where selling off ... found a few cool pinstriped double breasted coats - we looked like gangsters .. ha ...

my number one rule was/is comfort ...!! with a small touch of ' cool ' ...

otherwise, get your wife, gf, female bff, or a gay friend and have them shop w you. If they know their stuff, all you have to do is stand there and try on clothes as they bring em. Thrift stores are also excellent for finding cool, stylish and gig worthy fits
