There is no cure for earworm but it can be treated to alleviate the symptoms.
Fight fire with fire. Severe earworm episodes can be calmed by listening to another song.
The most effective songs are the simple ones with annoying little melodic hooks.

Lou Reed's album Metal Machine Music usually works for me to scrub out ear worm.
I had one of those stupid Chinese beetles crawl into my ear while I was sleeping earlier this year. Hopefully a once in a lifetime experience. I think you had more fun than I did...
The funny thing is earlier this year I actually learned the original bassline, whereas I in the past I winged it. That made the song fun again. I'm in the camp of "if people want to hear it play it". But having it stuck in my head is a whole different animal.

If I were going to have to have that song stuck in my head, that would be the version I prefer. Nothing against the original, but that band from the movie soundtrack was TIGHT!
Don't get rid of it. I mean, I'm pretty sure it's a law in most states that if you're in a cover band you have to play Mustang Sally. Jail is no fun.

The worst earworm I ever had was when I had a gastrointestinal episode that I thought might be heart palpitations so I spent 3 hours in the ER hooked up to monitors slipping in and out of a full blown panic attack with the Jake and the Neverland Pirates theme song playing in my head over and over and over....the worst...
Ok somethings afoot. I went to lay down for a nap earlier & couldn't get "Hallelujah" out of my head.
