I have an SR1400 which has mono-rail bridge, titanium rods in the neck, and Nordstrand big singles with active EQ. The things I like are the bass is light, the fret edge treatment is the nicest I have ever seen/felt. The neck profile is nice. The only downside is the boring body style. It's not ugly but it's not super-wow either.
If you are dropping a lot of money (at least $1500 is a lot to me), it would be worth testing it out if you have never before. The other thing is there is no need to rush buying an expensive bass. It's like you have time on your side.
Divorce is never pleasant but hopefully there were some assets to divide.
So now you are free for a while. You are free to re-invent yourself if you choose.
Last time I was divorced I bought an excellent travel-mobile and a really really good bass rig and hit the road.
I traveled for almost a year San Francisco to Key West connecting with musicians and playing along the way.
I am a huge proponent of dealing with divorce or other life crisis by breaking out of whatever life was prior and having a look around.
You never know what is waiting for you around the next turn.

There are actually a few shops in the KC area I have not been to in a while. There used to be a nice shop at 95th and Quivera but I can't remember the name of it to see if it is still there. I was thinking about going to Columbia. There are several stores there and I could take my bike and ride part of the Katy Trail on the way. Plus I could get some White Castles while I'm in Columbia!
For the price of a new Legend you could pick up a used Euro4LX that will blow it away without swapping preamp/pups.

I still think the Music Man Stingray double H is the best sounding and playing bass - for the money - that I've ever played. Just my $0.02

Speaking as someone who's divorced himself; I would say, put the money in your savings sock for a while, and see how things settle out. My own divorce was both amicable and simple, but still, my finances were in an uproar for a few months. Once things settled down, and my bills and budget stabilized? Then I could think about things like new basses (and motorcycles, and...). By all means, treat yourself; just not right away...
Congratulations/condolences. My ex left me, but I can't speak too ill of her as all she asked for was that I cover the court costs, which came to $400. The current Mrs. Gremlin is problematic, as she has a tendency to look at stuff on TB and say, "you HAVE to get that!", unless it's a Bongo.
I can't really give you advice on which bass to get, other than to approach it like you do a life partner. Try a few, see how you like them, and find what lights your fire and fits you best. Don't feel like you *have* to get something right now, and don't settle.

Amen! I'm happy with the basses I have, but of I had an "extra" $1,500 it would be a Carvin ... USA made to your specs and options. If you like the look and body style of the Ibanez then an "Xcellerator" may be up your alley.
