Help Me Choose A Divorce Bass

Ibanez basses with Nordstand PUs absolutely rock. Go for the Ibby!

I'll have to second this. I've owned over the years (and in some of my favorite examples still own) some really good electric basses.

I've become really impressed with mid-priced Ibanez electric basses over the past three or four years or so.

I'm rather partial to their sixes, and six was easy to get used to after making the transsition to five, at least IME.

Ibanez is making some really nice stuff in your price-range these days, IMHO.

So I'm going through a divorce and signed the papers today. It's all good for the most part other than having to move from a four bedroom house to a one bedroom apartment! Good news is that I am not only getting out debt free but getting a settlement from the soon to be ex since she is keeping the house. So since I will have some extra cash in savings and no one to tell me what I can and can't buy I'm going to get a new bass! I'm wanting to stay around or below $1500 and I'm leaning toward something more modern with an active EQ. Here is what I'm looking at so far:

Ibanez SR 1900ENTL Premium. Love the look of this bass and the Nordstrand Big Singles!
Ibanez SR1900ENTL SR Premium - Natural Low Gloss

Spector Legend Neck Thru: It has Aguilar pickups and preamp and I have always been a fan of the Spector body shape.

Would love to get opinions from those who own or have owned any of these. I'm also open to suggestions for other basses and they don't have to be new.

1.What kind of music do you like to play (or all styles)?

2.fingers, slap, tap, all, or other?

3.Covers or originals or both?

4a. Modern "stringy" harmonic structure tone, Classic fundamental-oriented "thump", both, or neither?

4b. are you "set it and forget it" player or a Swiss Army bass utilizer?

5. What effects do you use? If any

Dude, welcome back to being single. Of the three basses you have here, I would go with the Icon, so you can customize it in your own way

My own divorce bass (after the dust settled) was a new Geddy Lee Jazz in Sunburst.

Well - can't say I have not played them all but I did play one of those Ibanez's with the Nordstrands in it and I was very impressed. That this has serious tone and an awesome neck.

So - I hope everything works out well with the personal stuff and my vote goes to the Ibanez.

I just got a golden age Warwick Thumb NT4 for my divorce bass. Would strongly suggest a similar pickup scheme - something about two singles.

The main reason I mentioned the divorce was to see if anyone else had purchased a "divorce bass". There have been several replies that stated they did purchase a new bass after a divorce, so I guess I'm not alone in my thinking.

I play mainly rock. Everything from 60's and 70's classic rock to current stuff in a couple of cover bands. Also blues and some country but I would probably use my Jazz with flats for those.
I play all finger style, no slapping..
I like a more modern tone with plenty of highs and mids. I don't fiddle a lot with tone but do like to be able to adjust it on the fly.
I use very few effects, mainly compression and a bit of OD for certain songs.
My rig consists of a pair of TC Electronic BC212 cabinets, a Fender Rumble 500 head and a GK 400RB head.

Rather than another bass... do you play drums? Like to? Drums are cool because, perhaps more so than with any other instrument, it's still a barrel of fun even if you suck. And it's very cathartic. I enjoy the physical aspect of drums as much as anything. Plus, even when you're playing aggressively, with other instruments, hitting "hard" is still extremely controlled. You can grab a a pair of 2B's and wail the living daylights out of an 8x14 snare drum and not hurt anything but your ears and relationships with the neighbors.
