Yeah, it looks good. Itll be better when the pickguard and stuff show up too. But, it's more like a purple paint on this wood.I'm probably almost as hurt as you that the red didn't work out lol. That was a lovely rustic brown/red color.
I liked your second idea with the black back and sides, too. Unfortunate that didn't work out as you'd planned...
... BUT! The purple looks really good on it. The grain in the Jazz body doesn't let the purple SING like on the P/J, but it has its own character which, IMO, is really nice as well.

And also that first draft red reminded me of the trans red that Fender used to show once in a while. Either way. Twins are cool.
