High Pass Filter (HPF) and Low Pass Filter (LPF) Mega Thread

I saw this recently second-hand in a guitar store:

Anyone familiar with this? I've never heard of it but I don't claim to be an expert on these. Yet.

This dang thing was over $700 used.

Was looking into why there isn't an available on board HPF? I know one of my preamps has one and likely the cause of the easy to find tight bass in that particular instrument.

Does an onboard HPF exist???
I seem to remember @Passinwind building something along those lines.

That be a synth effect methinks.
Me too thinks.:)

In my sick TB mind he committed to building one that will fit in all of my basses, especially my P bass. I even dreamed up he would send for me to beta test... :)

Close, but nope; my open source one is actually a variable frequency variable resonance LPF. View attachment 3639231

Those are big words. When will the onboard HPf be ready.

My set up is a Zoom MS60B into a Zoom B3n into a Yamaha DSR112 powered monitor. In the last couple of software updates from Zoom, they have added both a LPF and a HPF. Game changer for my set up. The HPF tightens up the lows and the LPF smooths out the horn on the Yamaha. My tone has never been better!

Was the software update to the zoom ms60b? If so, which effect in it has the hpf?

I looked through it after the update and cannot find it.

Curious if an hpf is equally as useful at lower volumes (bedroom levels)? Or is it mainly for tailoring freq's during gigs or when rehearsing with the full band.
I used it with my guitar amp so I could still use the amp bass tone control.

I also use it when plugging my bass into my PC via the mic input. It cut the boom from the PC speakers that include a sub.

Probably not as important, but can still be very helpful.

I had a Bob Marley Live vinyl record that would move the speaker cones in the stereo’s JBL cabs like nothing else. Even at low volume levels. This is a perfect example of where a HPF would be useful at low listening levels.

With vinyl mastering they would cut the low end to prevent the needle from skipping out of the grooves. I don’t know how they did it but those speaker cones really moved. Interesting to not that the CD didn’t have the same effect on the speakers.

In phonograph systems, there is low frequency modulation caused by warpage of the media. It doesn't have to be much either, and the same issue can occur when the record is pressed slightly off center.
