Highschool without drugs?

I made it through high school without drinking or any drugs. 21 now, and only drink occasionally, in moderation.

If you want to be technical about it, alcohol is a hard drug (nicotine is as well). The criteria is based mainly on how physically addictive the drug is, health risks, and likelihood of overdose. Although not as dangerous as heroin, meth, or cocaine, alcohol fits the criteria quite nicely. So does nicotine, although much like marijuana, you'd pass out long before you smoked yourself to death. Some other drugs such as LSD and salvia are not labeled as hard drugs because they are not physically harmful, have a low potential for addiction, and are also difficult/impossible to overdose on - However these drugs have the potential to be psychologically harmful/addictive. Remember kids, if it fires, it wires.

Then you have drugs that are borderline with some characteristics of hard and soft drugs. For example, although people die from activities associated with ecstacy (MDMA) use, or mixing MDMA with other drugs, it is very rare to die of an overdose of MDMA alone. However, MDMA doesn't react well with certain other drugs, and unlike the ridiculous urban legends about 'laced weed,' it really isn't that uncommon to find 'laced ecstacy-' that is, ecstacy pills which contain substances that are considerably more harmful (PMA, methamphetamine, who knows), as well as less or similarly harmful substances (2ci, ephedrine, caffeine, who knows).

I just started grade 9, and all my grade 10 friends tell me that it's futile to resist the onslaught of drugs, but i'm really in to the Straight Edge thing, and am trying to abstain, but my very best friend, who introduced me to straight edge, is a budding stoner. I find this very dreary, and have slightly less high hopes than i used to.

My question is, has anyone on the boards gone through high school without drugs? I want to know if it's possible.

I had everyone convinced that I had cooked up some totally awesome brain-blaster chromosome-destroyer superdrug that will give your unborn children hallucinations and ADHD.


In reality, it was my own eccentricity and personality.

If the only reason you're sober is because you're "straight edge", you're not going to last.


If you have actual reasons aside from thinking it's trendy to have Xs on your hand, it will be no issue.

i did it

ive never done drugs my entire life
i did try alcohol (never had more than half a beer) but i can count the number of times ive consumed alcohol on one hand

believe me, say no its really not that hard
ive been saying it for the 3 years ive been edge
and i went edge in high school myself

and dont be straight edge just because you want to be edge
you gotta believe in being sober
thats what actually counts/matters

believe in yourself and believe in what youre doing and youll be able to do it

I'm in grade 11 currently, and I haven't done drugs yet. The "You can't resist it" thing is BS. I hang out with a lot of drunks and stoners, and I haven't done it yet. Hell, I haven't even TRIED to resist, it's just not happened for me yet.

I didn't have my first drink until age 19. Never smoked or anything like that.

I graduated in '07 and to this day I still have not had alcohol, drugs, or even a cigarette...ever. It is very possible, and well worth it.

I dont drink/smoke/do drugs either, but neither you or I are straight edge Fassa, you need to draw X's on your hands to be edge

And it is easy to not do drugs through high school, just dont do them, most of my friends did at high school, I didnt, I waited til university to start sniffing about the chemicals in our lab

High school - no alcohol no drugs
College - occassional drinking, tried pot twice and hated it (hate smoking of any kind, why make your body feel that bad?!)

I'm 44 now and have still never tried harder drugs, still never tried pot after those two times, and still have no desire to try. I do enjoy a good beer or a good wine and average a few drinks a week, but it's because I enjoy them rather then getting drunk from them. I won't lie, I have drunk specifically to get drunk occasionally in the past, but I was a lot younger then and eventually just "grew out of it" and it's now been many years since I've had the desire to. I'm not a militant, up-on-the-soapbox anti-drinker, it's just my choice to not do it.

When I was in high school and college I never felt any pressure to do either and attended many parties. If you don't want to do it, don't, and most people will be cool about it. However, be forewarned that the people most likely to pressure will be your supposed friends. They'll give you sob stories like "C'mon man, I thought we were friends. Just try it." but don't buy it because it's a big freaking lie. What they're really saying is "C'mon man, I don't give a s**t about you anymore. I just want you to try it and get hooked like I did so I don't feel like such a loser for falling into the trap.".

I know that might sound harsh, but it's fact and any who's gone through those experiences can tell you it's 100% true. If any of your friends ever tries that kind of line on you then drop them on the spot and tell them why you're dropping them. You don't need an enemy like that, let alone a friend.

I was a bit of a stoner in 6th form. There were a few lessons where I was so stoned that I just spent the time almost passed out on the desk, stirring occasionally to write something down in an unitelligible scrawl.

The majority of the student body were drug free though, it's not a hard thing to resist. If you want to do it then you want to do it. Simple as. I also got fairly decent grades too, for instance one of the lessons I mentioned before was on 'The Colour Purple' and on the exam for that book I got 100%.

I knew a guy who's sister's boyfriend's cousin supposedly made it through high school with out drugs.

Oh yeah, and the girl I married.

I kinda figured they called it Highschool for a reason. Seems I may have been mistaken.
