DUUUUUDE! NICE! is neck all the same wood, or is the darker wood a laminate? REALLY like how you carved the lower horn to the padouk. on my build, the lower horn has ball shaped end (planing to try and carve it into the shape of a ball), and the lams would be carving it like that would look amazing (bloodwood top, thin walnut accent, ash body) but i don't want to copy your sweet ideas without concent on your end. is it cool with you if i carve the tip to show the lams ? nice carve job. can we get a front carved view? can't tell from the pics, but is the neck shaping equal on both sides? maybe i am looking for something that could be better so hard that my eyes are messing with me. love how it came together!

Thanks, well ill try and make a diagram in paint for you to show you whats what. i dont think my ideas are new so i say go for it. but be careful depending on how thin the lam is cause you dont wanna go through it .you cant really tell that it is carved from the front its just a subtle bevel around the edges. and the neck is round on both sides. it required some odd methods of carving but it is round on both sides.
i really wanted absolutely no barriers between my hand and the upper regester. so i made sure it was a nice smooth transtion.

Well there has been some setbacks, i have been sick for the past week er 2 but there has still been progress.
the neck joint has been through even more carving and more carving around the whole back of the body. it may be hard to tell but i took off alot of material.it makes it feel like the huge upper bout is non existant.
now i finiches fretting BUT i found out that i made quite a dumb mistake. somewhere i made an oops and somehow i ended up with 22 frets. i dont know how but i did. so that offsets my bridge and now i have to re think how i am going to anchor the strings. ehh i am dissapointed in myself. cuse some of my dots near the top are out of place and i dont think im gonna bother fixing it cause thats near impossible
and i am keeping this one too so it wont bother me

now that is a slick transition! still dying to see that carved top. am curious of how this the top is, because i was considering some light carving, and the top is only 1/4". could you explain the frets problem?
yea mines about that thick too ill try and get a picture up soon. i cant really explain it but somehow i made a mistake somewhere along the line and ended up with 22 frets instead of 24 and 2 of the fret dots are off but they arent visible and its going to be my bass so i dont mind.
i love how the mat your working on is transitioning the pattern to the wood on the back. looks kinda kool
WOW! It's been about a month and a half since I've been even close to TB. I'm glad I popped in, that thing is turning out NICE! I can't wait to see more progress on it!
Im a very traditional style bass player (fenders and rics) im really not into fancy woods but you are amazing me with ability's on this bass. i really wish i had half this craftsmanship. Keep up the good work im beyond impressed
yea i didnt expect the glueing to go so well i thought for sure that i would have seams and such but it came out better than i thought
progress has been slow lately but i am getting to the end of the build.

OK about 5 or 6 thin coats of tung oil have been apllied also i am working on an aluminum string retainer. i have some more bridge port work but it is getting there. i had to make a new pup cover also but that is almost done. i did some final carving and shaping and sanding and this is what it looks like.
I couldn't agree more! PPK looks like he's going to have a long and happy career in making instruments like this...or at the very least I hope so!
