I'm going to call it right now. Somewhere down the line Horik is going to betray Ragnar to Aella. Ragnar will be put to death and as a result Aella will end up with the blood eagle.

History Channel - Vikings

Blood eagle? Dude, people back then all cultures studied disgusting methods of torture. I'm glad I wasn't questioned by the inquisition or captured by Vikings. 
Ivar is born with birth defects as predicted by Auslag. I thought Ragnar was going to slit the baby's throat but, I guess, he couldn't bring himself to do it. Thus, Ivar the Boneless will remain on the scene.
Floki is still peeved at Ragnar so is still verbally sparring with King Horik. Hey Floki; stop staring at your navel so much, dude.
The Viking raiding fleet is finally assembled under Horik/Lagertha/Ragnar and sets sail for England. I counted 16 to 17 long ships. I guess the producers decided that they should have good sailing weather for a change.
Once the beach head is established, its obvious that Ragnar is not on the same page as Horik/Lagertha. However, Horik has taken matters into his own hands and provoked an English attack by sending his son to ambush the royal party representing Ecbert. Apparently though, Horik was not willing to ratchet up to killing King Ecbert's son. I'm not sure why since Horik has bellowed about revenge against Ecbert several times. I've complained about this before but will do it again: Producers, please stop portraying English soldiers as complete dolts who cannot defend themselves in combat. I know this is not a documentary and the home team must win, however, the unrealism of Vikings going through English soldiers like hot knives through butter without so much as a scratch is jarring. Now Ragnar knows that Athelstan is still alive. I must admit that I don't completely understand why Athelstan should be so important to Ragnar other than as a curiousity.
There's a new princess on the scene from Mercia? I believe this is the same neighboring kingdom that Aella and Ecbert were scheming against earlier and is in the midst of a civil war. I don't think the princess has time to win her civil war and then pivot against the Vikings with Aella/Ecbert. The princess is somewhat insatiable in her appetites but I doubt that this is all that unusual among the 9th century ruling class. Ecbert offers the princess Viking mercenaries. I guess Ecbert was assuming that he could obtain them through a deal with Ragnar? Does Ecbert have some pet Vikings stored away somewhere?
I guess the next episode will be another battle: Ecbert/Aella vs. Horik/Ragnar/Lagertha. Will some major characters get killed off? It could happen if the producers have decided that things are getting too stale.

Rollo and Bjorn are shown practicing fighting in the beach. Rollo slashes Bjorn on the stomach and bicep breaking skin, then the next scene Bjorn doesn't have any wounds. Weird.

Ragnar has often sought new knowledge and understanding, so recovering Athelstan from the king after having spent so much time with him seems pretty obvious to me. What kind of man is the king? What are they planning? And so on.
I got the impression that we got the mixed results of 2 different outcomes from that practice; one in which Bjorn needed stitches and one that didn't. Or perhaps the wouldn't were serious but didn't happen as they were part of a dream or a foretelling from the seer.

But, that was before Ecbert's son's party was ambushed on the return trip by Horik's son and his men. I see this as Horik's way of preventing "gentlemen's agreements" and ensuring a battle.
Do you think that Athelstan would willingly return to the Vikings now? Or, do you mean taking Athelstan by force?
Aw yeah, I see you caught that too. I think Ecbert is operating under the impression that he can negotiate with Ragnar since him and Ragnar want the same thing, land and power. I believe Ecbert has mentioned before how the Vikings, led by Ragnar, can help him expand his own kingdom while throwing some of the victory spoils Ragnars way. If the show holds true to the historical account, it will be interesting to see how this plays out with Ecbert and Aella since Aella is currently inferior to Ecbert in military power as well as size.

I have wondered about that. Had the king not give him all that material to work with I believe he would have gone back to the Vikings willingly, but as things stand I'm not sure which he would rather do. Good question and I wish I had a clearer idea of which way he'd lean.
My opinion, Athelstan stays right where he is. I don't think he has the same feelings for Ragnar that Ragnar has for him.

. I had a few history courses that touched on the Viking impact in Europe. As far as I can tell though the records are unclear as to exactly how Ragnar's end comes about.Watching the first season, I was hooked when the first raid was at Lindisfarne. The HBO series Rome hooked me in the same way.

Historically Aella is killed by Ragnar's sons. The Blood Eagle!! I am quite sure he won't take it like Borg did!! No Valhalla for that guy! Blah... so far they have stuck pretty close in many ways to actual history but I imagine we won't see Ragnar's death until they have firmly established a crowd favorite with one of his sons. If they killed Ragnar too soon it would piss us all off too much. Maybe Bjorn will be the next hero?? But he will have to ditch that awful hair cut of his to please the masses that are watching this show. He needs some real viking long hair!
But I agree I do not think Eckbert gives a care about Aella. And Aella has ZERO interest in joining with Vikings. SO those two have a conflict as do Horik and Ragnar.
I wonder how it will all work out between those 4 people with their conflicting strategies and large egos.
In some substantial way Ragnar is going to have to convince Eckbert that he was not part of the choice to sack the Saxon company as they left their meeting with the vikings. I have faith in him to do it! He will fall back behind Horik maybe. Horik will charge, Ragnar's true companions will hang back and wait with him. Refuse to fight maybe, ask to speak to Eckbert and try to fix the mess that Horik the Turd once again created. If I haven't said it enough: HORIK NEEDS TO DIE. (although all good shows need an antagonist...they've done a good job with him being that for sure, but I am sick of his malarkey!)
I hope Floki doesn't die for following the Turd King.

The preview for Thursday asks 'who will fall?', then a quick shot of Lagertha falling to the ground in battle. The preview for the week after is about Ragnar and Horik returning to Kattegat. I wonder if the episode this week is the end of the road for Lagertha.

I saw an interview with Travis, Clive, George and the guy who plays Floki. (I forget his name) skaurd something? He is Scandinavian.
Travis let it fly that one of the main cast dies in the second season. But he eludes to it being one of those 4 men.
Lagertha has a HUGE fan base. Would they really kill her off?? My instinct tells me they won't and that either Travis was goofing around. (which seems more likely because they are sworn not to spoil episodes if they do interviews)
Or that it will be Floki who bites it. But I did see that clip where someone who looks like Lagertha seems to get hurt and fall. I think they are going to scare us, but I don't think they would kill her off. I hope not!

Floki is played by Gustaf Skarsgard, who by the way is Alexander Skarsgard's brother (Eric Northman on True Blood). It wouldn't surprise me if one of the main cast goes down...
