Randy I SO hope you are right!! I hope the Vikings stick together, (meaning Floki) Horik leaves as he cannot squeeze any more of his crap out on Kattegat, or he is run out of the village. If they kill his son he will then have to take revenge so let us hope both he and Erlander take a long hike back to Denmark or where ever they are from. (Is he king of Sweden or Denmark?? Poor them imagine that guy as your king??) From what everyone is saying about coming attractions, Horik wants Siggy and Floki to do the killing???? Why the heck doesn't HE do his own damn dirty work for once. I am sick of him manipulating people into doing his dirty work. He is a coward on top of all the other bad things he is.

The gods need to punish Horik for being so destructive, selfish, careless and just down right stupid.

i think Siggy could die. If Rollo lives, in actual history has sons, so some how he has to get with a woman of child bearing age, someone killing Siggy so he is free would do the trick. I really hope they don't kill Rollo. I suppose if they were going to kill him they would have let him die in battle not in his bed back in Kattegat from frikkin mushrooms!!

I do believe Rollo will live. I predict Rollo lives, Siggy dies, and Horik is run out on his tail feathers right out of Kattegat. Floki's fate is anyone's guess but I think it would have better dramatic effect if he changes his mind a the last minute and helps his friends rid themselves of Horik, OR that this whole stupid story line with Floki was a secret plot between him and Ragnar all along.

I can't find coming attractions for next week, where is everyone seeing them?? I looked on You Tube there is nothing there except a series of photographs for next week set to music.

I saw the photo of Floki skulking about with a large knife in the woods then Ragnar and Athelstan praying on their knees in what look like the same woods (huh?? Ragnar get off your knees man!!) I could just as easily see that Floki is there to protect Ragnar..there to warn him that Horik wants his death or to warn Ragnar that someone is going to try to kill Bjorn or something. (Still in denial that Floki is really mad yep)

But no video do I see for next weeks promo. Where are you guys watching that??

Hey, you mention something interesting...Rollo fathering kids. I have it, that horny Queen/princess that Ragnar's men are doing mercenary work for. The last guy she was checking out from that bunch looked like a slightly heavier built, not quite as decent looking version of Rollo - sort of like Rollo on steroids. If she though that dude was a prime chunk of beef she would be on Rollo like flies on ca-ca.

FLoki - no, don't think it's a trick or plan, he's really against Ragnar at this point. Not that he has any love of King Horik - I think Floki thinks Horik is nuttier than squirrel turds.

The previews - I am sorry mentioned it but we missed watching on Thursday, sat down for dinner Friday and watched it via "Comcast's On Demand. Neither my wife or I could remember if it was a trailer of what is upcoming of if they just let that stuff run at the end. They seem to slice and dice parts of the show based on when you are watching it. And we definitely have noticed they cut stuff off the beginnings, not showing as much of the previous week depending on when you watch it. As mentioned before, I think it is to squeeze in local programming and commercials. 30 seconds is a good commercial...is also enough time to give us some plot that drives us nuts for a week.

HAHA! totally! If that Slutpuppy ever laid her eyes on Rollo it would be all over!! Especially if she ever had a gander of him bare chested wielding his axe like a mad man~~ She would be in merciless pursuit of him, yes like flies on cah cah! They would make some pretty kids!

Although Eckbert and Aella have dreams of sacking Mercier and doing away with her do they not? I am not sure why they are suiting her up with Vikings to help her? Although they did say that they plan to take Mercier after the Vikings go in and "clean up" a bit? Sounds like that area is in a bit of turmoil currently.

You really think Floki is genuinely mad at Ragnar? But what about that moment in the great hall when Siggy and Horik were talking? Floki notices them talking. When Siggy realizes she's been caught she asks Floki if he can keep a secret. He says 'NO". His distain for Ragnar started right after that.

Rollo finds out too and asks her about it but holds his temper which was odd, no? Maybe all 3 of them are in on a plot to find out what Horik is up to? Although then Floki still hates Rollo. I don't know?? None of it really adds up in either direction. But I suppose one can have contempt for someone, yet still hold strong to protecting their kin in the big picture over an outsider. So even though Floki can't forgive Rollo, do you think he may be able to separate that from the threat of an outsider trying to mess with them?

I guess I can't get the coming attractions on line. I generally deplore television so I don't own one. So I must be patient. It's all good. I will be sort of glad to be free from it after the last episode, I am obsessed! T.v doesn't generally hook me like this, I don't know what it is about this. I was doing a self study thing on Vikings before I knew about the show (planning a trip to Iceland and wanted to know more) someone saw me reading a book about it, and told me about the show. Now I am so hooked on these characters.

^Hah, this was all good. Honestly, I only watch about 1-1.5 hours of t.v a week. I too was sucked into Vikings when my spouse asked me to watch with her. My Dad always called the tv the "idiot box" and I guess I generally agree.

Also, the "other" kingdom is Mercia. A fourth kingdom of the time was East Anglia. The term "England" was not heard of at the time.

The Saxons are Germanic any way aren't they? I think most English people are of German decent except the Britons, who descend from the Celts.
Do you know why they ended up calling it England? (Some derivative of Anglican or something?)

Do you guys remember the episode where the decision was made to spare Rollo's life after he betrayed Ragnar and joined up with Jarl Borg? I seem to remember a scene where it looked like Ragnar had paid someone off to vote not to kill Rollo. I'm not sure why I remembered that tonight, but I was just thinking about it. Maybe something will come from that.

Yes he paid the Law Keeper to spare Rollo with a coin he got from a raid in England. Because it was a member of Ragnar's family Ragnar was not able to make the decision about Rollo's punishment, that was Norse law at that time. So they brought in the Law Keeper to decide.

How could that play into this? It was long ago and far away~~~ two totally different things. Nay to that I say

I believe it derived during the time of Alfred the Great as "Angle-land". I very well could be wrong, as I'm just a minor history geek. Perhaps someone more in the know can confirm or correct me.

Here is a bit from Wikipedia. I'm not sure but it seems the Norse people could quite possibly be of Germanic decent too! How interesting! They are all from the same area originally maybe??? There were references to lowland Germanic, and highland Germanic, there may also be a middle Germanic. (which oculd have become middle english?)

It was a large area with upwards of 200 thousand people living there before they started migrating around. The word Angle may come from the Danish word "Angul" meaning 'King'. And here is says the Angul were descended of the kings of Mercia!! (which is where our friends are headed as "mercenaries.")

Could it be that the very word 'Mercenary" is derived from MERCIA??? OMG! And lookie here it says they believed they were descended from "Woden" and isn't he a close reckoning of the word Odin??? The Saxons were pagans at one time...meaning...my goodness, they are quite possibly the same race of people who at one time worshipped the very same gods????? I wanna see the DNA! All fighting against each other until now. Talk about full circle!

Ok and I just looked up The Franks and guess who they are as well?? GERMANIC!! It says in the 3rd century the Franks were occupied in the lower Rhine area, some stayed with the Roman empire and joined with them fighting as 'Gauls' which later became the territory of France. Ha, the French think they are so damn special (and I am half french..) they think they are some perfect race and all they are is German like pretty much everyone in Northern and Western Europe!

Now what about The Rus??? I hear a lot of talk about The Rus in the east of Europe back in the middle ages. The Russians....are they also of some Germanic Tribe??? And from where did the 'Germanic" tribes come and why were they so wide spread?? I guess the land boundries we now know in Europe obviously did not always exist as separate countries. It was one big area with a bunch of Germanic tribes settling, at times migrating, fighting and grabbing land. Then they wanted to become distinctive peoples and started "naming" themselves. But in reality they are all GERMAN!!

So now I ask: who are the Germans??? (the very early Germans I mean)

I read some wiki stuff on this subject (ie ragnar, horik, etc, etc, etc...)...I've come to the conclusion it's better to just watch the show and not try to understand the actual history of these events...very little of the actual history really follows this show...which is good I think...It's more fun this way...

True it is just as fine to just enjoy the show without getting too into the history. I do find it fascinating though.

Turns out The Rus are another line, they are Slavic which is also an old race. There were really only a few primary races of people back then. The Germanic, Slavic, Asian, and hmmm....what about the Mongols..I guess they would have been under the Asian gene pool. Then some where the middle east had a race, I don't know who they would be. The blonde and red headed and light skinned people of Northern and Western Europe. The Eastern Eurpoean some what darker people and then would it be the Africans??? Maybe the Middle east people are closer in decent to the Africans. If we go far enough back, we are all African~~~ ok that is enough of a historic interlude for now! :) Cool stuff.
