History Channel - Vikings

I think I have ruined some aspects of the show for myself after reading up on the history of the characters and events. Then again, the producers/writers may choose to throw everyone off and disregard the documented history and go in another direction. After all, the series has never claimed to be a factual representation of documented historical events.

It is more fun to get lost in it for sure. But I had not so great history teachers in school and I wasn't the best student so I missed a lot of interesting things about the history of the world. It is so cool to use this as a way to learn about history. It makes it more interesting. I've fallen in love with these characters totally. I love them all!

It appeared they killed all of Horik's sons but the oldest, probably will take the girls for servants or "comfort". That Ragnar spared any of them is slightly amazing but he does want to differentiate himself from Horik in some fashions. I thought Ragnar looked bad @ss with Horik's furs on, holding that sword up on the mountain.

What a splendidly complicated double cross that was! However, in the suspension of disbelief department, I doubt that anyone could have kept security on such a plot involving so many people. I still enjoyed it, though. A kick @ss episode!

In my TV market, they repeat each episode back-to-back. I watched it straight through both times. There was a spoiler which I didn't catch on the first viewing: Rollo was given the same mushrooms as Torsten but didn't die. Duh!

My take on Floki now is that he has only been playing traitor the whole time to smoke out Horik's plot. My basis is the easy opportunities he passed up to kill people close to Ragnar and the look on his face when he confronts King Horik for the last time and gets his blade in. I've got to admit, though, I was completely expecting Floki to kill Rollo (straight revenge) and Athelstan (strictly pleasure) at the very least before the episode ending rolled.

I prefer brunettes but Lagertha just seems to get hotter and hotter. The images of her all kitted out for battle leading a squad of Viking warriors and "doing" Horik's wife in single combat... I thought the TV screen was going to melt. It's a good thing my wife refuses to watch the show because of the violence. That way, she doesn't have to see me hyperventilating and repeating "d@mn" over and over.

I guess the writers had to let some of Horik's children survive for later use. I do think that Ragnar made a major, major mistake by letting Horik's eldest son live. As others have mentioned, that's going to bite him next season.

I haven't been "hooked" on a TV show in quite some time but I'm hooked on this one. I'm still holding out hope that, now that the show is established, the producers will allow the balance of "authentic" vs. "looks cool" to swing a little more toward "authentic". My understanding is that some of the main character's clothing is quite "fanciful" and inaccurate for the period.

I'm hoping that a dead Horik filled the "dead main character" quota for this season. Personally, I'm glad to see Donal Logue go for reasons I've elaborated on before.

I'm stoked about next season, too. You know, the Vikings raided all the way around to Ireland (are you listening, Lagertha?)

I'm trying to remember the name of a Viking movie that I saw some years ago. I think the protagonist's name was "One Eye". Does anyone remember it or am I going to have to ask the Interwebs?

That's hysterical. My wife goes to the bedroom to watch something else while I watch Vikings on the kitchen (at the far end of the house) TV with the volume pegged at 11 and the lights turned out. The dog just sighs and goes to bed with my wife. The cats scatter when the volume starts going up. Good times.

So when Rollo was still alive post the mushroom thing, I thought...hmmm.....what was the point of that? Right away I thought Thorsten isn't dead it was a ruse. Then when Floki didn;t try to kill Bjorn when he had the perfect chance to get him while he was very vulnerable (no clothes, axe on the ground, making love to his girl, come on?? What better chance would he ever get) I knew what was going to happen.

The mushroom scene with Rollo was weird though, it proved nothing to Horik as Horik only thought Floki killed Thorsten he never saw Floki do anything to Rollo. Then we see Rollo struggle to get up, clearly alive after the mushroom incident.

My prediction is that Rollo is for sure alive, I need to watch it again but it looked to me that he swung his axe at those guys. But it was so dark it was hard to see. But I would bet my last dime he is alive.

I think the girls of Horik's camp that were released by Bjorn were servants. I think all of his kids were slain we still do not know about Erlander but Ragnar is no fool...to let Erlander go would be foolish. Of all the children of Horik, Erlander is the most likely to seek revenge. Erlander must die.

How awesome was The Fight of the Shield Maidens?????? Suck it wife of Horik!!!!! You goin' down biatch!!!

I think the best line of the whole thing was when Horik tells Floki he "betrayed the gods" and Floki replies...no King Horik, I only betrayed you" ....just beautiful!!! And then to see Thorsten alive and well!! OMG!!!!!!!!

My heart is still thumping!!

Hey I wonder...was Floki testing the mushrooms on Rollo??? Because he loves Thorsten...they are buds. Maybe he checked to make sure they were not poisionous on Rollo first??

Although his affection for Rollo when he was talking to Siggy has given me hope that maybe Floki is willing to move past the incidents of the past??

As one who raises mushroom (the edible kind :) ) I actually thought in hindsight that maybe Floki truly gave Rollo some mushrooms he believed had some curative powers. Floki may have had a moment of clarity where he realized he wasn't much better than Rollo, with the way he had going over to Horik's side and talking down Ragnar. Ragnar is a hard man but he is careful and calculating, and loves all his people. He's king material in my book.

I got the same impression from Floki; that he was checking to see if the mushrooms were poisonous or not. Forgiven? Dunno about that. Even if the mushrooms were curative he hardly delivered them in a "here these will make you feel better" manner.

My impression(again, after the fact) is that maybe Floki figured, "here, I'll put it in the god's hands". As far as testing them - they say that guy they dug out of the perma-frost(the ICe MAn) had three kinds of mushrooms in his bag - one for food, one for starting fires, the third was a hallucinogenic type. I suspect the Viking had very good knowledge of different mushrooms, we've seen them indulging in them to get high 2-3 times in this series.
