History Channel - Vikings

I don't have a hit or feeling about who dies. I truly hope it isn't Lagertha. In fact I hope they are just messin' with us to even imply that any of them die! Generally speaking when a character is as wildly popular as she is, they don't kill them off. She keeps people watching so it would be sort of not so good to kill her off.

It would be similar to like if JRR Tolkien had killed off Aowyn. Some characters really just have to stay alive. Here's hoping Michael Hirst doesn't break our hearts tonight.

I’m calling this episode “Everyone’s a Fool Except Maybe Ecbert”.

Horik got his battle. You’d think that Horik might consider that Oden expects Vikings campaigning for Valhalla to have a little common sense. He charges straight ahead down into a valley with his flanks hanging out. The English oblige the king by smacking both of his flanks with cavalry. Exactly how does one become king without even a rudimentary knowledge of battle tactics? Horik is a fool on the battlefield and got a whole bunch of Vikings killed. Apparently, Ecbert was inspired by a Roman battle description translated by Athelstan, but my momma is a better field commander than Horik. Rollo is left on the field sliced open across the midsection and trampled by a horse. Ecbert has the good sense to save Rollo for later use. It was a little tense there when Lagertha got knocked down (by a horse?).

I thought it was sweet the way Ecbert played Aella after all of his bragging. Nothing like a little skin in the game, huh? Aella is a fool.

I suppose Ragnar sails quickly for home to save Rollo. But my question is: What better treatment is Rollo going to get in Kattegat that he can’t get in England? Even negotiating from a point of weakness after getting pasted on the battlefield, the Vikings get loot and land. Then, they sail away. What? Well, all those that didn’t volunteer to be a mercenary for Princess Slutpuppy of Mercia sailed away. Ragnar is a fool for abandoning his lands in Wessex. Why not fort up and let Rollo heal in Wessex? Ragnar has talked of seeing Viking settlers in England. Why not take steps toward making that dream a reality?

Athelstan returns to Kattegat with the Vikings. Athelstan is a big old fool. I guess now he’s tasted blood and he’s never going to be same. I guess he’ll figure it out just before some Viking kills him.

Floki is too stupid to realize that Horik’s stench is rubbing off on him. Floki is a fool. Did he not pay attention to what Ragnar did to Jarl Borg after he messed with Ragnar’s family?

Only one more episode to wrap it up. Who will end up at ambient temperature?

I don't like the Floki storyline. It's too fake to me. He had such love and loyalty to Ragnar, and a relationship with Bjorn, now he is going to kill him? Ragnar seems to have issues now as well since he called out Florki about being trustworthy.

Could anyone understand what Aella said to Aethelwulf while they were celebrating the victory? It was after Aethelwulf mentioned perhaps his father read something in regards to his success on the battlefield.

For a minute there, I thought Rollo was a goner, especially when Ragnar grabbed Bjorn and hurried him away.

Well that was awesome!! I knew they wouldn't kill Lagertha but I was very surprised at Athlestan!! YAY Athlestan!

Horik whispering nasty lies into Floki is poison. They all question Athlestan but I knew he loved them. If Floki was thinking straight he would see Ragnar is superior in his strategies over Horik and he has a very good sense about people. Come on Floki...come back to reason. I do hope this is a game still but I am beginning to wonder.

Unprofessional called it all rightly in that post above! I second all of what you said about Floki and Horik. It is more than clear (and has been for a long time) that Horik is a hot headed fool and if his advice is taken the Gods punish, not reward. Yet Ragnar sees clearly and Floki questions him? What has it gotten anyone to listen to Horik? Nothing.

Oh how I LOVE that Aslaug freed Thorunn!! And she will be a shield maiden!!

Poor Rollo...I hope he lives, he is in tough shape.

I do not like at all what is going on with Horik and Floki....Horik is evil. Please let it be a set up!! PLEASE!

I am afraid though at what Ecbert will do if he ever gets his hands on Athelstan. On the History channel web site there is a promo poster showing Eckbert cutting off Athlestan's hand. :( I hope that doesn't come to pass.

I don't get the whole Floki betrayal thing...what did Ragnar do to cause Floki to turn on him? The only thing I can think of is bringing Rollo back into the fold...

That's part of it and probably reason enough after Rollo came really close to killing Floki on the battlefield. But I think there's more. I think that Floki feels that he is not receiving accolades from Ragar that are in proportion to his contributions toward Ragnar's successes. In other words, Floki is feeling that Ragnar has taken him for granted. I think Horik is certainly working that angle.

Remember the episode where Floki found out he would be father? He made the comment to his wife about how everything here (Kattegat) belongs to Ragnar, and how Ragnar can't have everything he wants. I'd like to think this storyline is Ragnar and Floki playing a big joke on Horik, but I'm not so sure there isn't some genuine resentment Floki has for Ragnar. After all, Floki made the boats that made Ragnar successful. Still, I think it's a lame storyline.

Same with this Kwenthrith lady. Relax on the sexual obsessions already.

I think Athelstan turning his back on Ecbert is going to turn out bad for the Vikings. Ragnar will be stuck cleaning up a Viking mess caused by someone else again.

I've noticed Ragnar is not one for offering accolades to his tribe. He didn't really appreciate Rollo either and that got him into some trouble with his brother. You all heard me commenting on his lack of loving gesture or words toward Bjorn after their first battle together. And now Floki is feeling a bit under appreciated and jealous of Ragnar (if we are to believe Ragnar and Floki are really on the outs...which we don't know yet)

In many ways I love their strength, I love that the women don't whine when things get tough (except Aslaug...but she seems to really be coming around of late, I love the way they are developing her character now) Bad things happen, their children die, their lands get raided, they have the plague sweep through, and warriors are lost in battle, yet they do it all with an incredible strength with very little drama or complaining. (maybe they hold it all in until they are on the battle field and then let it rip?? A much better place for it)

So maybe this is a subtle thing to note about Medieval peoples...life was hard, and they did not look for praise, or reprisal. So ,,,,is Ragnar too stingy with accolades or is this the way the culture was? Should Rollo, Floki and Bjorn expect Ragnar to compensate them more with goods, praise, and land or money when they help him?? I have thought he could offer more thanks and shown more appreciation than he does some times. Although he paid Floki handsomely for his boats and was very grateful and excited about them, they both were. Really...even if Floki "suddenly" felt jealous of Ragnar it was not set up or explained well and there is not much of a reason even with their differences about Athelstan's worth or the sparing of Rollo's life. Thorstein forgave him...and his pal one eye was killed by Rollo. I would think Floki would be able to get past those things given the big picture and what Ragnar has offered them all. A bigger homeland with nicer dwellings, riches from England, more land...etc...I mean dang, cut Ragnar a break!

I think it is a flaw on the part of Micheal Hirst if he does not bring this thing with Floki and Ragnar around. Everyone feels it came out of no where with very little explanation or justification. It came out of no where and has not been explained fully. Most of us don't see a good reason for Floki to turn so badly on Ragnar that he would contemplate killing Ragnar's children over it! So if it is a plot to de throne Horik we will find out next week. If it goes on into the 3rd season I will declare it poor script writing and be pissy about it!!!

Well, I didn't like the piece at the end (sorry, this may have been the trailer for next week as I watched it a day late "on demand") where FLoki is stuffing presumably poisonous mushrooms into the incapacitated Rollo's mouth and Horick is telling Siggy she needs to kill Ragnar's younger children. This is getting really messed up and kind of childishly stupid even for a tool like Horik.

I think Ragnar doesn't compliment his men as he doesn't want them getting a big head. HE lets people know they did well by including them in what he is doing. Ragnar seems to sense he is a natural leader and so far nobody has really told him he is not. His natural ability in that regard is what pisses Horik off the most.

Floki's hatred of Rollo could have another source, tied to his lady getting pregnant. Remember the scene right before they left on the first voyage/raid...Rollo was last on board because he made a quick, rape of Floki's lady. Dipped, dripped and zipped. In light of their culture Floki might have been able to pass it off since she wasn't necessarily "his". But the deeper commitment of marriage and a child may have made it start to wear on his mind.

The only way this could have a happy ending for me is: Siggy stabs Horik, she possibly gets killed by his son or she kills them both. Rollo doesn die but Ragnar himself kills Floki - it needs to be brutal too. His skinny little head needs to roll.

The preview I saw for next week showed Siggy telling Horik the way to Ragnar is through his family. It showed Horik giving Floki a sword and telling him to kill Ragnar, then Horik telling Siggy to kill Ragnar's sons. I didn't see the mushroom bit though. I seem to remember Floki saying he couldn't do that (kill Ragnar), but maybe I heard wrong.

I forgot about Rollo raping Floki's girl. I don't remember what came of that child.

I don't picture the Ragnar/Floki/Horik storyline being concluded next week. Rather, cliff hangers for next season.

Yeah, Floki goes to see Rollo, tells Siggy he will sit with ROllo so she can get some sleep. Then he starts telling Rollo how he(Rollo) had put him in bed like that. Rollo tries to grab Floki's throat but has no strength. FLoki whips out a bundle of mushrooms and says "here, the food of the Gods", slams them into ROllo's mouth and puts cup up to his mouth and makes him drink. Is odd. We see Rollo trying to cough them up/out and that's it.

I watched the preview again for next week on my DVR. Horik gives his son a sword, then tells Floki he needs to find a way to kill Ragnar. Then it cuts to a scene of Floki with a sword sneaking up behind Ragnar in the woods. I can't make out who Ragnar is standing with, maybe Athelstan.

I'm disappointed as others are with the way Floki is being portrayed. I liked him from the start, when he was that cooky guy hiding in the woods.

-Mike

It is odd, they seem to be showing different previews in different areas(I'm in mid-Michigan, USA). They never showed a scene of Floki tailing Ragnar into the woods. THe only tailing is when Ragnar was walking Athelstan back to Ecbert - some mysterious charecter had an arrow drawn on either Ragnar or Athlestan(lets just call him Stan) but we figured it couldn't be Floki as the dude had too much hair.

I don't have any thought that ROllo knocked that girl up. Wife and I argued...I didn't think it was same girl. The girl Rollo raped seemed like some brainless half-mute whereas his wife seems fairly spirited. Kinda cute imo.

Bjorn g/f - I find her a little harsh, especially the brows. Oh well, she comes from Aslaug's territory.

The girl that Rollo had his way with was a servant. Not Helga (who is now Floki's wife) so I don't think this hatred of Rollo has anything to do with that. I think it is more about Rollo trying to kill him and the baptism thing got Floki pretty upset. And the killing of One Eye.

Oh..no Siggy will not kill Ragnar's children...no way.

This is not going to turn out well for Horik or Floki. Ragnars sons in history go on to do great things, they avenge the death of their father (who presumably dies at the hand of King Aella and his snakes)

When it comes to Ragnar they are sticking closely to real historic tales of him in the sagas. So no one is going to kill his kids.

Rollo however....as you say you all saw in previews, that would totally suck if Floki kills him. If he does...Ragnar will kill him. ...Floki is jealous and mad that Ragnar let Rollo back into the fold. Floki doesn't seem to have a family, no brothers have we heard of, no parents...he has no family except Helga and his viking friends. Floki isn't a family kind of guy (yet) so he can't understand Ragnar's love for Rollo?

He can't possibly think he will get away with trying to kill Rollo???? Siggy would know it was him and Siggy does love Rollo and wants to ride his coat tails back to stardom and status but she will not be happy if he dies. What a mess!

Maybe those coming attractions were misleading-- some times they make things look a certain way in the coming attractions to put us off the real plot and out come. But Floki stuffing poision into Rollo seems clear. Lets hope he doesn't succeed.

UGH! The waiting is killing me!

Not only that if someone thinks they will kill Ragnar and then become Earl??? HAHAHA! Floki could never pull off being earl. Horik would have delusions of granduer on that one, adding another land mass to his collection as king (how did that guy get to be king??? he is not very bright) but he is insane if he thinks Lagertha is gonna let that go. She could kill him herself. Sadly with Rollo so hurt there would be few to stand in Horik's way. I hope Lagertha didn't go back to her lands, we need her there to protect Ragnar's back.

But if they kill Rollo...they are going to wish Ragnar was dead. Unless those coming attractions are misleading Floki is a fool.

Some how I am wishing this: The coming attractions only show a part of what Floki is up to. What they don;t show in the shot of him sneaking in the woods, is that he is going to warn Ragnar of a plot, he is going to double cross Horik and save the day. He tries to kill Rollo so that once Horik is out of the picture (thanks to Floki) that he will be back at the right hand with Rollo out of the way. Except...if that shot of him stuffing mushrooms into Rollo that you guys saw was not as it seemed? That bit of information has me stumped. If Floki is trying to help Ragnar killing his brother makes no sense.

So maybe Floki really has lost his marbles and really is mad at Ragnar. Damn.... :( I am still holding out for us all to have a big surprise with that story line.

Or maybe the mushrooms are not really poison they will just put him to sleep?? So Horik thinks he killed Rollo?

I am clearly having a hard time believing that Floki is really pissed at Ragnar....I might be in major denial on this one.

But I keep thinking about that interview I saw with Travis Fimmel letting it fly that one of the male lead characters gets killed. Maybe it is Rollo?? :( damn...that sucks. I do love watching him bare chested wielding his ax I love his brooding and his love of his brother, and I would miss his character very much. But as characters go I think Floki is more disposable than Rollo in terms of fan base.

But either of them really are. They are main characters but not indespensible, either of them.
