History Channel - Vikings

Rumor has it Bjorn dies in the season finale.
In some of the previews, he's running around the battlefield with no shield or weapon, then we see him fall to the ground bloody and what looks to me like he is struggling with someone or an injury.
If anything, that's going to be the cliffhanger ending.
If it's true, I have to say Hirst is out of his mind continuing into season six with Ivar instead of Bjorn.
For as insufferable and brooding as Bjorn has been all season, he hasn't ruined the show like Ivar has.
I still think Floki makes an appearance in Kattegat in the finale.

I've been less and less of a fan since probably the 2nd season.
You know Ragnar wasn't gonna be around forever but once he was gone, I thought that was a big hit to the show.
But the biggest thing that bugs me is that they call 8 or 10 shows a season, really? Get to work for crap's sake. I actually missed a couple of the shows in this last season and it didn't bother me much.

Yeah, and the thing is you didn't miss much anyway. Each episode is mostly the same drama and back and forth.
Harald is jealous of Bjorn.
Bjorn is angry but in love.
Ivar is delusional.
Floki is upset with the gods and all the fighting his friends are doing.
Hvitserk wonders why he is second fiddle.
Ubbe makes bold statements about the future.

That was kinda funny when Floki found the cross after praying to his God, then gets trapped in the cave ... with the cross.
I sure would have liked to have seen Fredis's child - there must have been something really wrong with his face around the mouth if he couldn't breast feed. Then Ivar finds out who trashed his statue - that was a searing end for her, and her family. I wonder if Ivar was more pissed over his (Fredis's) kid or the statue(?) I'm guessing the statue by how brutally he murdered the whole family.
I thought the fight between Ubbe & Frodo was great too, and also reminded me of the old days.
Hvitserk carrying the dash board Buddha is a bit humorous, maybe he could mount it on a chariot.
I sure loved seeing Lagertha feeling better and back up on a horse again.

Great point, me too.
I have never written a TV show or movie in my life, but it almost feels like bad writing.
It's like at the time of the writing, Hirst didn't know what to do with the storyline, so he moved forward with other stories and figured he'd come back to it later.
Rather than go back and drop it into sequence, he just added a couple episodes later a flashback to what would have been in that original episode if he had thought it up at the time.
I think flashbacks can be great when they catch us up on a history of the story that is not part of the show or movie. But to do a flashback to a couple episodes before? Yeah, that just feels lazy to me.

Great final episode for S5! It was all looking so grim for Bjorn's team until Fredis shows up, and so enraged at Ivar for killing her child tells them of a secret way in, and that she wanted to see him strung up in a tree ... Ivar didn't count on that!
The battle scenes were fantastic, and I thought it was just so cool to see the three brothers together again afterwords, Bjorn given the flag, and then Lagertha shows up, and declares Bjorn the new King of Kattegat. It was endearing to see the look on Bjorns face seeing his Mom alive and well, but I wonder how Harald is after the sword wound(?).
Now THAT was a great flashback with Ragnar and Bjorn!
Looking forward to next season ...

Wow! That episode was great, and took me back to the better seasons.
Those were some intense battle scenes, although the attack looked a bit unorganized and unprepared.
I had to look away a few times at the end since I thought for sure Ivar, or White Hair, was going to put an arrow or ax in Lagertha's back as she declared Bjorn king.
What's the deal with Harald? Is he dead or alive?
Now I have my answer of where Lagertha considers home. Ubbe and Torvi coming along for the ride sort of surprised me. I half thought he'd stay in the new settlement and live out Ragnar's dream.
That was brutal watching Ivar strangle Freydis. I thought she was going to get the cane and stab him.
Ivar rides away on a cart as someone hands him a tiny pocket sized knife. I wonder who he plans on using that on.
It was good to see Bjorn back to his old self and a great way to wrap up season five. Hopefully season six is the same quality episodes.
Does Bjorn, Ubbe, and Hvitserk get overconfident now and decide to take on Rollo?

So I didn't miss anything by not seeing last night's episode? I dvr'd it anyway.
Spoiler alert, don't read the other posts yet, lol
Ivar was blatantly unaware of how enraged Fredis was over her child, and had no idea of her intentions to defect, but he never found out that child wasn't his. I thought for sure he was going to find some how, some way.
I loved the look on Ivar's face being carted away dressed in raged clothes, and that straw hat ... he lost his kingdom, clothes, and trying to escape undetected with his new tiny pocket knife. The look on his face was priceless. It couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy - Ha Ha!
My take on it was Lagertha showing up,naming Bjorn king,giving him the shiny clean sword,all of that was in Bjorn's head....Reality was the shot looking down on him holding up the bloody sword,surrounded by all the dead.Victorious...And defeated Ivar being carted away.
I got to thinking since Wednesday. I wonder if Ivar slips away to Floki's old place. Floki comes back to Kattegat and finds Ivar in his old house, and those two are close. Could be a Ivar/Floki reunion.

I was digging through other Viking related shows and found a movie Rollo (Clive Standen) starred in, Hammer of the Gods (from 2013). A tale of Vikings and Saxon battles as well. I watched the first 25-30 minutes, and got bored. The gratuitous violence was over the top and felt way too forced in an attempt to add shock value.

You can watch it online via your cable subscription, or from a device like a Roku.
I haven't said this much in season five, but I recommend watching this episode.

Last month, HBO OD offered FREE Game of Thrones S1 & S1 of The Sopranos on Direct TV. I really liked the Thrones (the show certainly has everything!), and the details that went into it are superb.
I saw the silent movie "The Viking" (1928) twice now on Turner Classics. Parts of it were in color, and other parts were in B/W - it was fairly intense for the times back in the silent era. Great movie if you like silent films.
