I like Macca, but he is not the reason I play a Hofner. My favorite is Geddy. So I play a lot of Rush on my 500/1.

Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

This was the picture that started my fascination with the 500/1 bass, the year was 1980 I was 13 and knew nothing about any electric instruments. I just liked the way it looked even now I still like the look of the 500/1 bass.

Squire is an amazing player, and if one is attempting to emulate Geddy there is a lot of Squire DNA in there. I love the Rics too, but liked the 500/1s just slightly more. According to my guitarist the 500/1 is the second coolest looking bass. I'll let you guess the first.
I had a Ric for 16 yrs it was a great bass, But the only one I would save in a fire would be the 500/1, there's that special something for me with the 500/1. Still a huge Chris Squire fan though.

500/1 is a great bass. Once stupidly traded a blade pickup one towards PA. Stupid. Now I just hang onto this...

I have just bought the above Hofner HCT 500/1 Violin Bass in Ebony secondhand for £399. I've been looking at this bass today at work & couldn't shake it off, spoke to my wife just before and she gave me her blessing and the green light to buy it. It will be here on Monday I have never held or played a HCT, so any thoughts would be grateful.
It all started when I was on my dinner and I was looking at 1964 Hofner Violin Basses, and was shocked on how much they are going for now and started worrying about mine. So I thought a backup as I'm back into playing my Hofner again & want to keep it going for many years to come. This HCT 500/1 in time will get a German panel,tuners and flatwounds & I wont worry if it gets knocked unlike my '64.

I love my HCT. It sounds great. It is a Cavern spec. one, though. It scratches the itch when I want to play a solid body. It has a different feel than my 68.
