Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

Just ordered a 500/1 '63 - 60th Anniversary edition. Going to take a few weeks to arrive, until then I still have my two Contemporary's to play then I'll sell them both. The standard 500/1 on the right is from the first production run in 2008, it's been converted to German made hardware and electronics.

There has just been a thread here on TB regarding Hofner neck profiles, and the penny has just dropped & I can't think why I didn't remember this.
My '64 500/1 has the pencil thin neck so not even the German made, Artist bass was going to have a neck that felt like my '64 neck. So with that in mind now I'm just going to enjoy my '05 HCT 500/1 for the bass that it is and not something it can never be. So apart from the teacup knobs which I have installed I can't see a valid reason, to change anything apart from the strings flatwounds of course.

Just received my Ignition Club and couldn't be happier! The finish and fretwork are immaculate, way better than one would expect from a €400 bass. I have one question: what are the string gauges that are standard on it? I'm going to take the rounds off anyway and replace them with LaBellas but I'm wondering what I can expect neckwise and setupwise.

I like light strings, and use 40-95. I think 45-100 will work on a Hofner. The main thing is to get the right length. Hofners are closer to medium scale than short scale. Many companies mKe strings specify for Hofner. So I would search Hofner on their websites.

Thanks! I know that :) already bought a set of Hofner-specific Labellas but I want to know what size are on it from the factory.

Looks great! The binding looks a little aged in the photos too. Is that the case or is it just the lighting?

Even though I have 6 Hofners none are hollow body Cavern spec. I can't really justify another German model, so and Ignition would be the choice. Given how nice your Ignition looks I am very tempted!

After 35 years of picking (originally a guitar player) I recently started practicing finger style. Trying out which technique suits me best. James Jamerson 1 finger style seems to give me the best results for now, but I'm afraid in time I might regret not having taught myself with 2 fingers. Also, the Hofner violin appears to fit my finger style best with thumb rested on neck pickup or even a little further on the neck (end of fingerboard), and hung lower than I'm used to while standing. Any tips appreciated!
