Friendly reminder to all that the "ignore" feature is free. I used it on a couple of trolls including OP a while back... 10/10 would recommend!

Solid advice. Talkbass got a lot more enjoyable for me and I became a much more harmonious participant when I used this feature. It worked so well, in fact, that @Chris Fitzgerald thought I would make a good moderator...which was not the goal and I reminded him that I hadn't always been so easy going here. But, I relented and the first thing I had to do was un-ignore everyone and stop using that feature. Excellent advice for you guys, though.

The fact that I haven't issued a single warning on this thread is a minor miracle and a testament to our community. We don't keep moderator stats (as far as I know), but I think I issue no more than a handful a year and most are to BG players who decide to participate here the way that they do over there. I like playing BG and there are some excellent players (going to hear a few locals tonight), but there is some whackiness in the BG fora that we have a low tolerance for over here. I try sometimes to manage these threads as a participant, so that I don't have to issue warnings to members of our community who react appropriately...but outside of our rules and mores...to posts from newcomers who may not have caught on yet or maybe don't care.

For the record, I don't think our OP is a troll. He is not informed on matters pertaining to doublebass or doublebassists and I'm hoping that he is learning from this thread. And, I honestly hope that he takes up doublebass if it is calling him.

@Oscar Stern, your passion and dedication to music is evident from your internet behavior. Whether it is DB or something else, if you channel that into an instrument and genre that you love, I'd personally be interested to hear what you can do. But, I think you should stop looking for shortcuts and groundbreaking hacks and do what we call "the work". It also helps to find balance in the community of people who do what you want to do. We can be very helpful and supportive.

And with that, I think it's probably time to shut this one down.
