Hmm I watched it with dubs but it didn't bother me too much. I still thought it was a good movie. It's more of a love story than anything.
I heard the Last House On The Left was pretty brutal? I never really got into the original.
Full disclosure: I love the original. Its probably my favorite of the early 70's horror flicks, with the exception of Texas Chainsaw Massacre (one of the coolest things I've ever done was meet the guy who played Leatherface through my high school cinema teacher, so I have a soft spot for that flick.), but Last House just captures the grime that I associate with the 70's so much more than any of the others.
You should really check out Bergman's The Virgin Spring if you haven't yet. Same story as Last House, Chaos, etc, but its Bergman, and in the hands of a much better director the concept gets a whole lot more depth. Not really a horror flick, but just a good movie.

Did you watch it first with subtitles or jump straight to the 'dubs? I watched it first in its original version and then tried to watch it with the English overdubs and it robbed the film of so much of its character. It didn't flow the same way, and felt choppy.
While we're on Let The Right One In, anyone else think the kid's dad was gay?
I've only seen it once, and this was way, way back when it first hit US soil, but I remember getting that vibe.

I thought that at first, but then agreed with something I read on the internet- the boy (forgot his name) sort of instinctively hides his face when his dad starts drinking- it seemed to allude to the idea that his was possibly violent when he drank, and that scene may have been about that.
Nah I just went with the overdubs. Oh well I already took it back and probably won;t see it again.
My thought was not that he was gay but that he just had a serious drinking problem and the kid had concern about being there while he was getting loaded. Possibly part of the reason the parents are not together anymore.
Finally got to watch Funny Games last night after getting the second copy of the DVD. I kept expecting it to veer off course and go in a different direction but it never did, it just barreled ahead. It could have been a little quicker paced, but that may have added to the movie too.

I watched Creepshow 2 and Jacob's Ladder last night. Creepshow 2 was, as it's predecessor - funny, entertaining, and a good embodiment of the old EC Comics days.
I'm glad I gave Jacob's Ladder a second try. I first saw this movie back when it was released and I didn't get it. I was too young. Watching it now though I understand the movie much better. I think next I'll track down The Serpent and the Rainbow.

Zombie movies. I can't get enough of them. House of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead... delicious dead rotten bodies scattered, skull smashing, "we'll never make it out alive. There's something about the way they walk so slowly, yet they can kill so well...
IMO Creepshow 2 wasn't on par with the first one though it is pretty good. Jacob's Ladder was a great movie! It's definitely odd until you see the ending.
Serpent and the Rainbow freaked me out good when I was young. Speaking of 80s voodoo flicks anyone ever see The Believers? I may never get over the makeup/spider scene. Effects were a bit cheesy but still.
lol.. shawn of the dead needs to be on that list.. as funny as that movie was, there are still some great nasty parts.. like when they disembowel the guy with there bare hands while he's screaming
I picked up "See No Evil" starring Kane (Glenn Jacobs) from the WWE for 1 cent plus the usual $2.98 shipping (Amazon).
It wasn't too bad I didn't think, and Kane didn't need much make-up if you know what I mean.

Anyone seen "The Mist" based of the Steven King short story? Its one of my fav stories by him, and since I work in a grocery store in an open mall like the one in the book, I hope its a good movie.....

Just watched it a week or so ago. If you can watch the black and white version I suggest going that route. It makes for a better experience.

I will. It was one of the few stories by Steven King that I really got into. The other was Needful Things. Awesome read, never seen the movie tho.

Watched Quarantine and My Bloody Valentine last night.
Quarantine - yeah more shaky camera work. Same problem with Cloverfield in that it's ridiculous that the camera is carried up to the end of the movie given the circumstances. I suppose that is required for us to see what happens though. Some real creepy parts. Makeup was great. Some not so realistic acting but the chaos of many scenes covers it up pretty well. After having some basic filming experience I can see that doing the extended camera work with so many actors and chaos is really impressive and hard to pull off. Thumbs up to that. Overall it's not 5 star but I would recommend it.
My Bloody Valentine was equally good. I watched the 2D version - those glasses hurt my eyes/brain. Anyway it was more of a murder mystery horror movie. I liked the twists and how they make you think one way or another about who is doing the killing. Some of the gore and killing scenes were over the top excessive. It's definitely a gore fest at times. I really liked the miner mask and outfit for the killer. However I couldn't help but think it has to be hard to see out of those goggles. How come he never seems to have any trouble finding/catching his victims.
