Used to love horror flicks. But seems they have become too cut and paste. As soon as I see "Six college students stranded in...", I move on. Any Steven King is good.

Halloween I & II were just on AMC as well. I watched I, but don't bother with the rest.
My daughter was kind of surprised that Jamie Lee Curtis was the same person from True Lies & the Activia commercials.
It's hard to go wrong with John Carpenter's "Apocalypse Trilogy":

killer clowns from outer space, basket case, trick r treat, monster squad, motel hell, and razor blade smile just off the top of my head
Insidious I + II were great. Haven't seen pt. III but I heard it was terrible, so I'm just gonna pretend it doesn't exist.
Not really "new" anymore, but I thought Drag Me to Hell was great too. Raimi still has it.
Definitely not terrible. It wasnt as scary as the first two but it was good. The end was interesting with a mix of emotions involved.

I love horror movies which partly stems from Halloween being my ABSOLUTE MOST BESTEST FAVORITE EPIC holiday of the year. That said, I've only been actually scared while watching The Devil's Advocate when it came out because of Pacino's awesome role (won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it).
My friends and I in college also designed, built and ran haunted houses for our school (and later the city) so we'd actually watch horror movies all year long. Partly for research (what's the psychology of this specific stimuli eliciting a fear response?) and partly because good horror movies are fun, bad horror movies are funny and campy/cranky horror movies are freaking hilarious.
Tonight I was rehearsing bass parts for a couple singles for an artist I'm playing for, and while taking breaks I watched the first four of the Leprechan horror films. Pathetically bad death scenes, the dialogue was atrocious and the characters were two dimensional at best...they were awesome!

Their schedule showed the original Friday the 13th at 12:30 today, but it was the 2009 remake.
I was in the other room grilling some sausages & heard "Sister Christian" & knew that song wasn't released yet, when the original was made.
The lack of Kevin Bacon on the cast was a giveaway too. At first I was thinking, "I don't remember THIS opening", and thought the production was clean for 1980, LOL.

I haven't gone to a "horror" movie in years. My idea of a great horror movie is more a suspense movie. Think "Wait Until Dark". No slashers, no buckets of gore, not my cup of tea.
But I'll watch Karloff's Frenkenstein, Lugosi's or Coppola's Dracula, and similar movies.

It was also on the big screen. TCM has a program where they show them in the theaters. Double bill, with the Lugosi version and the Spanish language version filmed at the same time, on the same sets. The Spanish version was, in some ways, a better movie. 1/2 hour longer, so it had a little more detail. The acting, OTOH.......
ME TV has Karloff in Frankenstein airing Halloween night.
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is supposed to be really good, haven't seen it yet though, less gore/kills more comedy/horror meta type thing
I haven't read the whole thread, but "Tucker & Dale vs Evil" is a must see for horror movie fanatics!
It's a brilliant comical twist on horror movies, being a laugh out loud gore fest, and the whole movie is based on misunderstandings & mishaps. It has all the necessary horror movie clichés, and couple hot chicks (Katrina Bolin & the gorgeous Chelan Simmons) to boot.
Story: "Tucker and Dale are two best friends on vacation at their dilapidated mountain house, who are mistaken for murderous backwoods hillbillies by a group of obnoxious, preppy college kids"
You will laugh your a$$ off - guaranteed!!!
