Horror movies

Saw The Hills Run Red this last weekend. It started out promising but then the plot fell to pieces. There was so much potential that could have been used with the original premise but no... it had to get completely ridiculous. Who is writing these scripts?!? :confused: I'll just look forward to the next remake of a movie from the 70s or 80s that was good. :D

Is that really going to be a remake of the original Piranha movie? I remember being terrified as a kid when that was on tv (grew up on the niagara river, millions of piranha could be in there...) but it turns out that it was a horribly cheesy movie. :D Horribly cheesy.

I just decided that since the people making these new horror flicks havent the slightest idea what the difference is between what is good and bad, I should be at least consulting them if not making the movies myself. :p Someone has to do it!

When I think of a bad horror movie, I think of one of those made for Sci-fi specials. They are pretty much all the same and usually involve some some sort of awfull looking CGI creature, and some totally washed up has been actors....... No pun intended for Bruce Campbell as I think he has been in a couple of those cheesefest films, anything "Evil Dead" will allways kick ass.

Don't forget the ever present no name hot chick w/ beautiful beautiful bouncing bewbies running from said CGI creature.

Sy-Fy is a great channel to switch to while your primary show is in a commercial break.

Diary of the Dead was good. Romero's gotten very good mileage out of the whole Zombie-metaphor bit, which doesn't really happen too often in horror flicks (metaphors, not zombies).

And there are tons of awful horror films for every generation of film-goers. It takes a very unique skill set to scare people in the film medium, and even more talent/insight/knack to do it in a way that's fresh and unexpected.

The worst I ever almost saw was not Scream, Blackula, Scream, but this:

...the trailers for which I saw at the drive-in once. "4-D vision" was color infrared 8mm film. Psyched by the 4-D Witch appeared to have been shot in silent 8mm with the sound dubbed in later, a total budget of a few hundred dollars. At one time, you could actually make some money making student-grade horror movies for third-features to film distributors supplying the rural drive-in market.

I got duped into seeing "Posession" starring Sarah Michelle Gellar this weekend. Don't do it! Should be scary seeing as how it advertised that it was made by the exec producers of the grudge and the ring on the dvd cover. It was neither scary or good. I still like Gellar but this movie was bad.

Some friends and I have issued a challenge to each other to do the same except we're doing 31 movies in 31 days. It doesn't have to be one a day. I'm a couple movies behind right now, but so far I've watched:

Frankenstein (1931)
Let the Right One In (2008)
Frozen (2010)
After.Life (2009)
Phantasm (1979)

It's been a lot of fun so far!

I watched the Ecorcist 3 this past weekend, hadn't seen it in a long time. It was better than I remembered. A little hoaky at times and the acting... well it's George C Scott. :D I like it though.

Also saw the original 1960 b&w The Haunting again. Nearly no effects. Odd how a movie can carry itself on a good story alone. Todays movie makers could learn a lot from the older stuff. Without copying them. :rollno:

I usually rewatch classics this month like the original Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween 1 and 2, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm St, Creepshow (one of my all time favorites), Evid Dead, Psycho, and some zombie stuff. Is there anything new worth mentioning?
