I parted ways with the SR5 back in 2003. But after trying Pedulla, Don Grosh, Lakland USA, Peavey USA Cirrus & USA Millennium, Sadowsky Metro, Mike Lull, and bolt on *and* neck-through USA Ken Smiths, I've come home to the SR-5; mid-90s, fretted and fretless. It.Just.Works. For me, you understand. YMMV.

Funny thing is, they get a lot of crap for mimicking Fender, but these don't sound or play anything like a Fender. It's still very much has The Music Man vibe, just passive.

I would of went with a fender if they could ever build a decent passive USA PJ but they have yet to really pull it off as well, odd but true

Even though I have always sworn I was a P-Bass player, I acquired a 'Ray (SR4 "stealth") a few months back from a fellow member here and love it!

I have two Precisions and it is my favorite bass of the three.

Nice - those MIA SUBs used to be a smoking deal on a high quality bass... I've owned a few:

Killer deals...for a while they would often show up in the $275-500 range...lot of bass for that coin. A USA SUB has been on more gigs with me than any other....
These days I scratch the Stingray itch with the Ray in my avatar....but have much love.for the SUBs and regret selling my last one

I don't think that's quite accurate as the 3-band EQ controls have a center detent and the 2-bands are from zero to dimes, so nothing is actually "set".

But there's no doubt, If those treble controls are dimed, man, it's teeth-chattering bright. I leave the 3-band on my SR5 in the center detent at all times (except for mellow sections, when I roll the highs all the way off). But I have seen guys dime the treble control and oooooh......

Yeah I tried both basses and favored flat (detent) on treble and on a vintage I just rolled back the treble half way like it was a P bass tone control.

Check out the Modulus Funk Unlimited. Just a muuch better version of a Music Man I owned both and sold the Stingray because it didn't even come close to as good as this Modulus

That's the bass that was the Flea Sig. until his endorsement deal ran out.

Exactly!! Except the tone is thick smooth and rich, not at all treble focused.

I would very much like to get a Cutlass to compliment my Caprice . They sound nothing alike but would compliment each other very well.

Agreed - I do miss my SUBs, but moved them to fund other gear choices...

My '78 Stingray. Bought her brand new back in the day for $450. Still have all case candy, original strings, MM T-shirt, MM leather strap, original HSC and original MM brown vinyl gig bag. In the 90s I swapped out the electronics and replaced with Seymour Duncan Basslines. Plays/Sounds great but I am thinking about returning the electronics to the original.

When I got my 3 band Stingray (here on TB...after only ever briefly played a couple at music shops) I was worried about the top end being too clanky and thought about selling it and getting a 2 band classic. Then I played it with a couple of different bands and man, does it work really well in a mix. I get compliments all the time on the tone.
