How do you get your 810 around

Well, I currently have an ampeg 410hlf and it doesn't fit in the boot because the cabs too deep, so I have to lay it on its side and sit it across the back seats, and it barely fits through the door, so I don't think there's a chance of getting an 810 through that way.

810's are actually a few inches shallower than the 410HLF. I discovered this when I bought my 410. The 810 usually stays in my room with my SVT and the 410 stays in my guitarists Astro van. I have a pickup with a vinyl cover and a locking tailgate for when I need to move my own stuff though.

You guys are insane, lol - me and my friend had to get my 4x12 marshall up 1 flight of stairs at a mill we were rehearsing at and we did are backs in for a week!! You 8x10 people most be crippled! Hehe

It's actually a bit easier to move the larger cabs around because you don't have to bend over as much. Some 810s even have a large bar across the back to hold onto. 410s seem harder to move around because there's no easy way to grab onto them to move.

I used to carry my Acoustic 301 in a 77 Scirocco, so some small cars cars do alot! But, if you don't have a way to get the 810 around, this may not be the time for you to invest in one. I know you WANT it, but a deal will show up later, when you have a larger vehicle, or a record contract and a sound company to do all the work! :)

Over the years I have used a minivan (Pontiac Transport), a pick-up, a Saturn Vue (SUV w/seat folded down), and my utility trailer behind a car. IMO minivans are the musicians vehicle for smaller gigs. Lots of room and your gear stays warm and dry, great for climates with harsh winters. This year we are playing a party on an island so my boat will be used...

For under $400 you can get a portable trailer - folds flat against your garage wall when you don't use it.

Harbor Freight has them on sale for $249 right now (with coupon)... They have many other non-musical uses as well. I for one can not live without at least one of my vehicles having a trailer hitch.

It would need a plywood box constructed on it to keep your gear secure and dry.

Look on CL for old boat trailers or utility trailers and convert them to enclosed style. Very inexpensive compared to buying a new enclosed trailer.

Post #21 shows a commercial made enclosed trailer that is perfect but costs about $1,200. If you are handy with tools you could do it by converting an old trailer for a lot less...

On the other hand, trailers do tend to suck when gigging in the city where parking is at a premium... And driving (safely)(including backing up) with them behind you is a skill all to itself. I recommend going to the mall or supermarket parking lot on a Sunday morning (or other quiet time) and practice if you aren't accustomed to driving with trailers. Talk to a trailer user... First rule of trailer driving: the trailer will always cut a corner sharper than your tow vehicle, so stay to the outside of corners or your trailer will be partly in the lane next to you or off the road or over a curb/knocking down road signs, ect... Very annoying for other drivers...

Ever since I decided I was going to be a musician the smallest vehicle I've had for hauling equipment is an old station wagon (anyone remember those?). Otherwise it's been a series of pickup trucks and an older Ford Econoline van. If gas is going to stay this freaking high I'm going to start looking at a soccer mom minivan.

The 810 isn't any deeper/wider than the 410HLF.

I recommend taking out the back seats.
