how do you guys justify 1000 plus basses

I have several below-1000 basses that are fine and I use them.

I have several over-1000 basses as well because that's what their value was and they are worth it.

if your point is that the "return on equity" is below market so to speak, that's fine. I keep my costs under control and I get paid for playing, so net of everything this is not a drag on the family finances. But it's what I love to do, so there's that.

I'm just a hobby player how do you guys donit

It's a matter of value perception, how do people justify US$20K wathces while the clock on your iPhone is more accurate? How do people justify Ferrari's while the speed limit is 55mph and they've never driven on a race track in their lives?

If you're just interested, then fine, I can let you know how I justify it, but if you're trying to justify your own purchase, then it makes no sense to ask how anyone else does it. Whether or not it is good value only you can tell, since most of the time, these things are very subjective.

I'm sure I'm not being any more constructive than the gentleman of the second post (LOL at that comment BTW), but it's what my experience tells me.

You could ask how people justify $50,000 cars or $800 watches or $400 blenders. I had a friend who couldn't get over how much I spent on my knife set and pots & pans when he got all of his for around $100 total.

Like anything in life it's a combination of disposable income and priorities.

My wife understands that my hobby is playing the bass. I don't play for money and have no intention of quitting my day job. In fact due to my excessive business travel schedule I'm not even in a band or gigging. But none of that stops me from buying nice basses that I can afford and in some cases even basses and guitars for investments.
I have other hobbies as well and they are much more expensive than my bass hobby so I don't get too much grief over my gear acquisition.
