How Exactly Has Rick Quality Went Down

I wonder, if someone owned a Ric and it was stolen from them - how many tacos would it take to get it back.
How many tacos is a Ric worth?

Looks to me like Ric5 would consume mass quantities of tacos to get his back, not sure many others on ths thread would do the same.

All kidding aside, every time I start jonesing for a Ric, one of these threads comes along and completely and utterly destroys my desire to take a chance on one. I love the looks of the Cheyenne along with all the sound clips I've heard of them but I'd have to buy it sight unseen. It would be a leap of faith. A few TBers swear by Rics but many more don't, and then there's the undisputed lack of customer service even from the Ric fans. Looks like I'll probably end up spending my money elsewhere.

:rollno::( sad post right there^
i encourage you (all non-ric-owners) to leap-o-faith and get, at least, a second hand ric once in your life - any model you like

In January of 1977, I purchased my 4001 without being concerned about it's faults. As a working musician, it was a tool to me, and a good playing one at that. Heck, it didn't need to be set-up or even tuned. All that concerned me was the awesome sound and look. It was a little awkward getting used to the feel after playing a Jazz, but now it fits like a glove on a rooster. Flaws and QC issues don't distract from a good working tool.

Giolmour - the problem is, whether you were trying for humor or not, it gets stupid really quick.

I think if you were willing to spend the time hunting through stores for a flawless one, and they are out there, you'd find the TONE worth all the idiosyncracies. At the end of the day, they are such great looking and more importantly, great sounding basses.

I bought a new Mapleglo a few years ago and there was a dead spot, but more of a concern was that the neck was buggered. If RIC fixed the problem quickly, I would have been happy, but they wouldn't do anything so I returned the bass and the dealer was stuck with it.

If anyone thinks RIC QUALITY is bad, check out their their customer service. THAT is the reason I will never buy another one of their products. Their CS is the absolute worst I have ever dealt with in any industry.... Pretty bad that I would rather call the phone or cable company then RIC.

Agreed there CS is Rickenbackers worst flaw, hands down. It's bad enough that I would never bother to call them if the bass I got had a issue, simply return it and get another one, if it has a issue keep returning it. Dont even bother calling Rickenbacker.

I happen to really like mine . A lot . I once thought a pickup died because of the screwy input jack , but I just needed to bend the jack back to it's proper position . The pickup was fine . It seems that a lot of people that complain about them know little about them .

in all seriousness... it would take several lifetimes of unlimited tacos to trade for my ric, and even then, im not sure i'd take the deal :D:cool:

Played a keeper Fireglo 4003 yesterday at Parsons' Music in Hong Kong. Checked it carefully and saw some minor finish / binding issues at the neck joint, and a burr on the fingerboard that had been stuffed with gray wood filler. Fretwork was awesome, setup great, and tone was exactly on point. This particular instrument had a bit less clubbiness to the neck profile in first position, and if I was in a position to drop $3000 or so buying a US bass imported to China and then bringing it home to the US, it'd be the one for me.
