Why spend time in a band if you hate each other ... quitting bands like that leads to pure joy!
Not trying to start anything, just looking for advice.
I have head that before and, maybe my skin is thin too, so help me here.
I worked 36 years straight, 32 years at one company. After 32 years, I got fired for not putting down 10 minutes that they claimed I worked Over.
Now I have been out of work for almost 2 years. I look for work every day. I am willing to do about anything. I am 55 years old, too young to retire, too old to hire.
Thoughts brother bass player?
Yes, butting quitting the week of the gig is a bit of a dick move, IMO.
Ric5 said:Ya I probably would have played the last gig ... but I would NOT stay in any band where I got lectured and mistreated. If the music is not fun then why play? The hours suck, the pay sucks, also you have to put up with the drunks in the bar that yell "Freebird!" ... There has to be some fun in there somewhere.
So I joined a project that's already established and is gigging based on a tip from a friend. 5 piece rock/blues band.
Everything goes well until we start talking about the news and my inner right-wing conservative self comes out about Occupy Wall Street... Now, I'm a firm believer people need to work for what they get, and that if somebody isn't working that has the ability to do so, they need to be working. If they don't like the status of the U.S economy, they need to do something to stimulate it.
And... The guitar player's inner Zach De La Rocha comes out. I'm given a lecture about how hanging off the left is "the only way to be", and how I'm an "uninformed idiot" I storm off after hastily packing up, with him laughing his arse off.
So, the week of the gig. Monday practice, Friday show. I show up with no gear in my truck and tell him I won't be playing, so to find a suitable replacement. Only I used some other language. I don't plan on going back.
How important do you think personal beliefs are, and did I do the right thing?
5 days to find people, audition them, choose one, and have them learn the material?I gave them five days to find a replacement. Five days, in my experience, has been plenty of time to find a replacement.
I pretty open minded, but even I couldn't over look that kind of weirdness.^ Ding-ding-ding.
Couldn't care less what other players believe in as long as they can play and they meet the obligations of the band.
So, you worship the crocodile god and collect your farts in a jar? Okay, 1, 2, 3, 4...

...

My band :
-All left wing
-3 of the 4 are vegetarian
-All atheist

The earlier in life one learns to keep this stuff internal, the better.
