How long after your first did you get a second bass?

6 months. First was a squier affinity with a warped neck, cracked neck pocket, in need of new pickups, most of the hardware had rust on it, and needed a fret job. But it was a great and cheap introduction to the instrument and helped me know what I'd want I number two. I'm planning on number 3 in about 14 months. So it'll be 2 and 1/2 years from 2 to 3.

28 years ....... I had a choice between keeping a Japanese Jazz or my Roland G88 as I couldn't afford both. I kept the Roland because it was a neck-thru and covered in brass which was cool at the time. Plus it came with a way-out floor controller and nobody had one. Funny that the Jazz was considered second rate at the time due to it being - gasp ! - Japanese.
Yes, still have my first bass, a 77 Jazz bass I bought from the first owner.
What happened was I got into a band where the jazz's tone wasn't cutting it, I needed something more modern with more low end and more focus to the tone. I could have put a preamp in the Jazz, but instead bought a used SSD made in Czech Rep. 4-string, which is the first run of the Spector Euro basses. Then I bought an Ernie Ball Stingray for a deal that was too good to pass up, and traded it and cash for a Warwick Streamer Stage I, which is my main bass now.
But I still gig with the jazz. It sounds incredible with my Streamliner 900 amp, great for blues and soul and semi-acoustic gigs.
Between first bass and second bass about 4 years.
Between second bass and third bass about 8 years.
The last time I bought a bass was 30-1/2 years ago.

My first was a Danelectro in 1964. Back then, nobody even thought about having more than one. There weren't that many options anyway.
I did go through a number of basses, a Ric, a few Fenders, a Mosrite, a couple I can't remember the make. I also went with no bass at all for almost 10 years. In 1988 I bought an Ovation Magnum II and in 1992 I bought a G&L SB2. Sold the Ovation about a year later. Had to sell the SB2 in 2003. In 2005 got a Squire and 2007 an American Jazz. Then traded the Squire for a Takamine acoustic/electric. Since then, a Mike Kelly Dragonfly in 2008, an upright in 2011, and just recently a Squire VM V. So, after a long slow start, it looks like I am on about a 1 1/2 year cycle. I hope to reduce the cycle time as I am already in the hunt for the right P.

Got my first at 15, my second at 17, my third about a week ago at 25. I you don't count the Peavey with a wonky bridge that had to be returned.

Second bass was an SD Curlee 1977 - so 3 years. Still have the Curlee

I got my second bass four years after my first bass.
I played in a Hard Rock band with owner´s songs. So I choosen an Ibanez SoundGear 1000E, bassicaly for his sound. Few years after I use it to play in another band of Funk Metal with owner´s songs too. I still got this bass.

Six months, because I listen to my teacher. He want me to buy a four string and I want I five string. I should buy the five string from the beginning. I put flats in the four string and will install passive electronics just to get a vintage tone and leave the fiver string for modern rock.
Okay, taking this both ways it could be meant. First traded after three months, was junk, for Ibby SGR that I had for a couple years, for Ernie Ball Sterling that I had for 15. Sterling is now gone but not forgotten.
Had the Sterling for many years (10+) and bought a second, a junk fretless. Loved the fretless, but not the junk, so traded to a used Ibby 5 string Fretless. The Ibby is gone, but still have a 5 string fretless.
Then got G.A.S. Oh lordy, and now the Mrs. is counting the basses and that is probably not good.
Had the Sterling for many years (10+) and bought a second, a junk fretless. Loved the fretless, but not the junk, so traded to a used Ibby 5 string Fretless. The Ibby is gone, but still have a 5 string fretless.
Then got G.A.S. Oh lordy, and now the Mrs. is counting the basses and that is probably not good.
2nd bass was bought after playing a Sears Kent bass for about a year. 3rd bass came 30 years later in 2007. Basses 4 - 9 were bought since then ;-)
1st DB -> 2nd EBG - 2 years
2nd EBG -> 3rd EBG - 2 months
3rd EBG -> 4th ABG - 4 years
4th ABG -> 5th EBG - 7 years.
Only still have #5, but I really, REALLY miss #'s 1 and 2.

If you mean "when did you get rid of your first bass and get another one" that would be about 6 months. My first was a right-handed Daion. Being a lefty, I got it because it had a fairly asymmetrical shape so it wouldn't be so obvious I was playing it upside down.
But the control knobs got in the way of my left forearm, and the jack socket pointing upwards into my arm was very uncomfortable.
I saved up and bought a lefty Ibanez Roadstar II. GREAT INSTRUMENT!
If you mean "how long until you owned two instruments at the same time" that would be about 4 years. I stumbled across a lefty Jazz, bought it instantly. Then, later, I ordered a Ray5 - I still have both and probably will take quite a long time for GAS to make me succumb to another. I feel I have most bases (heh) covered with my current equipment and really have no need for anything more.
Doesn't stop me looking, though...
