....I don't even remember when I started playing now....must have been around '79....so that puts me in the 30+ range....here's an old shot of me [still have the bass....]

It seems like this has always been a very popular question to ask new musicians we meet.
It also seems that this question is, for the asker to get a basic idea of how experienced you are in a sense.
I've found that I personally don't care for this method of probing ones ability, so I don't ask.

But for when I am asked, and depending on how the question is worded, I've got some well thought out sarcastic replies for when it comes up.
So to answer your question....

What do you mean years, no one can play for that long.
The most I can do is only about 5 hours at best.

Years? I don't know I lost count at around 10,000 hours.
How many years is 10,000 hours?

I started when I was 15.

Well that's not a very nice question to ask a lady.
