30 years. Back in 1982 at University the band I wanted to join already had 4 capable guitarists (there's always been too many of them!) so I made the switch to Fretless Bass.
It seems like at almost every gig someone asks me how long I've been playing. I have to wonder if they are thinking "dude looks kind of old, but he sucks, he must not have been playing very long"...
Started 20 years ago but my playing has been off and on again during that time. I'd say I've put in a solid 6 years total, the last three years consecutively and don't plan on stopping ever again.
I've been about 4 years... picked one up about 3 1/2 years ago... wanted to get some skills under my belt before playing at church.... unfortunately got "pushed" into playing... lol... and now I realize just how lost I am when it comes to theroy and scales and such.... working on a lesson plan for me to start learning the meat of playing bass... Study bass.com is becoming a favorite site for me
