How long have you been playing bass?

6 years playing guitar, 4 playing bass. Guess the fact that so many people voted for the last option is a bit of an explanation as to why we see good advice and, on an average, fairly well behaved users on TB

Since high school, which puts it about about 1979-80 (31-32 years). You'd think I'd be better by now...

I am sure it has been said, but your poll ends too soon. I have been playing now for 31 years and still am only 46. I am sure there are many people who started way younger than me and would have way more years experience. However, in my 31 years, I have never been not playing either. I took a month off when I moved down south (took that much time to find a band) I took a month off when I moved back north (same issue), but other than that, I have been playing on stage regularly for 31+ years now.

Since '71, like it says in my sig... 40 years this year. Currently two full time bands, and a third to fill in the gaps.

28 years for me. First licks learned Smoke on the Water and the Barney Miller theme song, lol. Then a drummer introduced me to Mahavishnu Orchestra and Tower of Power.
