How long have you played? :)

I picked up bass when I was 12, after having played piano for 6 and viola for 2. Started my first band when I was 14, played my first gig when I was 15, and then the plinko puck landed on the "play bass" category and I haven't looked back since.

I'm 21 now, so that makes 9 years.

Sophmore year in high school( 1980?), my brother took me to my first concert(Springsteen!)and I had to have a guitar. I bought a guitar a few months later. At 18 I could only play, Can't Explain, Hey Hey My My and not much else. At 19 or so I decided to actually learn how to play. I've played guitar ever since, I'm 46 now. Maybe 4 or so years ago, several of us at work were talking guitars and decided to get together and play. There were 4 of us, one guy played drums, became the drummer, one guy was GIT educated and the other didn't have the proper ego and attitude for bass. I volunteered, sat down at my computer and ebayed a bass and amp. At present, our drummer is still playing with his original band, my friend who went to GIT is "in between bands" and I still play with the third guy. I remember thinking " I'll play bass until we find a bass player, the I'm the rythm guitarist" when we started, now I think of myself as a bass player. I had an epiphany that as a bass player I'm far more sought after than a guitarist.:bassist:
