Until very recently (couple of weeks ago) I only had an Ampeg PortaBass250 combo and an Ashdown 4x10. Now added a Trace Elliot AH350SMX, Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 and SWR Golight 2x10 to the mix. The Ampeg is for sale though. Thinking about trading the Ashdown for another lightweight 2x10 cab at this point.

The why is I'm a gear whore. Just haven't been whoring in the bass world in a long while :)

One for now.

Thunderfunk TFB420 into a clone of a Accugroove 208. And a cheap DI.

It sounds great, is loud enough for anywhere I play and is pretty easy to transport. I can DI in the event the T'Funk gets to spend some shop time.

One of these days, I'll add a small tube head into the arsenal.

1 GB shuttle max 12.0 - New gig rig.
2 Hartke HA3500 - Old gig rig, now backup.

If I ever change out from the Max (couldn't really see doing this) then the Hartke will go and the max can be the backup.

I do keep a spare cab for a practice space to keep from lugging them around though.

I have...

- TC Electronics RH450 that I use for most gigs and all rehearsals

- GK 1001RB-II that I use for practice at home. It was given to me by a friend that tours with a famous band, so it has sentimental value. I do gig it every once in a while.

- Genz Benz GBE1200 that I only use for outdoor or large indoor gigs. It is a beast but sounds huge.

- Hiwatt Bulldog 30 practice amp... it's a POS and I just haevn't bothered to sell it.

I have too many cabs too!;)

I have SVT-3pro and SVT410HLF as my main rig. I also have BLX '15 cabinet for small rehearsals. I'm considering a small change - '15 BLX cab for Backline 112 combo - to have two amps (one for backup) and two cabinets (i can connect SVT to '12 speaker - with caution, because of speakers low wattage) ... and I always loved the GK tone (not that much as I love Ampeg tone)

pros:
Two amps, one smal and portable. Two different sounds.
cons:
Money. Lower wattage.

IME small combo amps are great for what they are but usually NOT very good for use as a speaker cabinet w/ a more powerful amp head. There would be exceptions of course, but I don't expect that Backline would be one of them.

Bass amps/cabs-4. Mesa Buster 210 wedge/Mesa Deisel 215, Mesa Walkabout/GB Uber 212, Ampeg BA112, GK BL110. Guitar amps-2. Fender HRD, Fender Blues Jr, (blonde). Keyboard-1. Roland KC350. Bass amps over the last 3 yrs are many- Ampeg's-V4BH, SVT 6Pro, BA210sp, BA500, B100R, and cabs- SVT18, SVT410he, SVT15e, SVT210he, and the Mesa's- Powerhouse 15, PH210, PH410, PH212, then Epifani UL212. Miss the V4BH.

I have lots but tend to go for one old tube amp Eq'd to drive a pair of 115 Altec Ampegs and another Eq'd to suit an Eden 8X10 LXT then use a Lehle dual and a Nathan East pre to get me scoops sorted. Simples!:bassist:
PS. Like Aircraft or ships its better engineering to run more than one engine gearbox propellor and fuel/electrical system, it shares the load but each has to be powerful enough to get you home on one if anything
happens to the other.:bassist:

2 or more heavy -- 1.4 kW and 1 kW power amp with whatever preamp
1 crappy combo

one rides in the back of the GTI with a 2x10 cab (Ashdown) so it's always available
one can be left where I rehearse frequently (GK)
one only goes out when it's important (MB)
and the others go out when they make the best sense

Fender/Sunn for the Stoner/Freedom rock stuff.
